Applying Message Rules to Move-Find-Sort-Delete Mail
Windows XP and Windows Vista - Outlook Express and Windows Mail

Many have already learned to use rules to filter incoming mail, but did you know you can create new rules and create them after the fact? Meaning, you can apply rules to already received mail to sort it in any way you choose, delete it, etc. We will start the instruction below with a refresher on making a message rule. For this tutorial, we are going to find all the Information Avenue Premium Newsletters that may be piling up in your Inbox or other folders, and moving them to their very own folder! And, the best thing about this rule is all future newsletters will go there too!

1. In Outlook Express click Tools, Message Rules, Mail (see image below):

2. The following window will open; click "New" as shown below:



3. Put a check mark where it says "Where the From line contains People" as shown below. A secondary window will open (see Item B) so type in "Cloudeight InfoAve Premium". You can also put an email address here instead, or the words as we have done - we think it is an easier choice :)

Next, put a check mark where it says "Move to specified folder" as shown directly below and another window will open (see Item C) and type in (Note: you can choose a number of options such as delete, copy, forward, etc. in this step if you prefer).

Also, name your rule if you want (see #4):

4. Now click Ok, then Ok again. To apply the rule, click Tools, Message Rules, Mail again, and you will see the list of rules. Find your rule, click Apply Now. You can choose what folder to look in, including subfolders. Now everything is neat, tidy and organized!
