I have been reading that the older versions of flash player aren't safe. But when I went to download the new version I noticed it tried to install McAfee scan or something similar so I cancelled. What do you know about the newest version of Adobe Flash Player?

We know that the newest version of Adobe Flash Player fixes several security issues that could be used by miscreants to take control of a person's PC. So, it is essential that you update as soon as possible.

It appears, though, Adobe just can't fathom giving something away free - they have to monetize. It's pretty sneaky, the McAfee Security Scan is easily taken care of, you simply uncheck the box next to "Free McAfee Security Scan". While it sounds good, guess what? When you install McAfee Security Scan you get goaded to buy McAfee Internet Security for $49.95 - every time you run it. It's nothing but a come-on for McAfee Internet Security which you "lease" on an annual basis. Just uncheck the box and don't install it.

Something worse than that exists in the Adobe Flash Player. It looks innocent enough. But getPlus+ is a download manager - a browser add-in for Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox that installs when you install Adobe Flash Player and there's no way around it. You're going to get it whether you want it or not. You can remove it later by going into your browser add-ins and removing it, but there is no way to avoid having it install when you install the Flash Player. This is sneaky and underhanded. Adobe is bundling things in order to monetize Adobe Flash Player. While Flash Player is free, it is not free from garbage that most users would not choose to install. You don't need a download manager in your browser - so uninstall it or disable it as soon as Adobe Flash Player has been installed.

You do need to update your Adobe Flash Player if you're not using the current version which is 10.0. Any versions previous to this one are subject to exploitation by criminals and miscreants who just can't seem to get a life beyond making other people's lives miserable.
