|
Warning! This advisory contains language that some may find offensive. Please understand it is necessary for us to use the exact wording of the subject of emails you're likely to receive that will contain this very nasty worm. If you're easily offended please do not read further. Experts are warning users to be wary of unsolicited emails claiming to contain obscene pictures and sex movies. The Kama Sutra Worm is scheduled to trigger worldwide on Friday, 03 February 2006. The W33/Nyxem-D worm (also known as Email-Worm.Win32.VB.bi, Blackworm, or W32.Blackmal.E@mm) can spread via email using a variety of pornographic disguises, in an attempt to disable security software. If launched it tries to disable a number of anti-virus and firewall products, and attempts to harvest other email addresses from the infected computer, in an effort to spread itself further. Subject lines used in the malicious emails include the following: *Hot Movie*Arab sex DSC-00465.jpg F*****' Kama Sutra pics Fw: SeX.mpg Fwd: Crazy illegal Sex! give me a kiss Miss Lebanon 2006 Part 1 of 6 Video clipe School girl fantasies gone bad The Best Videoclip Ever Users need to to practice safe computing and be vigilant. Use common sense. Never open unsolicited email attachments and discourage the sending and receiving of joke files, pornography and funny photographs and/or screensavers. The Kama Sutra worm feeds on people's willingness to receive salacious content on their desktop computer. By doing so, they're putting their computers and data at risk as well as their contact's computers and data. THIS WORM IS HIGHLY DESTRUCTIVE AND CAN DAMAGE DATA ON YOUR COMPUTER! The W32/Nyxem-D worm has a destructive payload, which triggers on the third day of any month, destroying DOC, XLS, MDB, MDE, PPT, PPS, ZIP, RAR, PDF, PSD and DMP files by replacing their contents with a text string. The so-called Kama Sutra Worm is set to trigger on February 3, 2006. Make sure you have a good anti-virus installed and that you keep it updated daily. If you don't have a current version of a good anti-virus, install one. Many computers that came with Norton or McAfee pre-installed are not protected because these programs require users to purchase a subscription. If the purchase is not made, these anti-virus programs will still be installed and appear to be working, but they cannot be updated with the latest virus definitions and therefore are worthless. If you use an old version of Norton or McAfee and you have not purchased an annual subscription, our advice is to uninstall it and download a good free anti-virus program to replace it. The three anti-virus programs we currently recommend are: AVAST (Free version available for home/personal use) AVG (Free version available for home/personal use) Anti-Vir (Free version available for home/personal use) Do not allow your computer to remain unprotected as doing so puts your data and your computer at extremely high risk. Worse, it makes you a carrier and your computer can spread the worm, virus, or trojan to other computers connected to the Internet.
