To those of us who've already helped us, thank you so much. We really appreciate it. We are very grateful to all who answered and are still answering our call for help during these very difficult economic times. The current economic crises is particularly hard on small businesses like ours who have no reservoir of funds to tap like big banks, financial institutions and big corporations do. Those in the middle seem to bear the biggest burdens when things get rough. But, it is very comforting to know that there are nice people out there, like you, who are willing to do what that can to help. We appreciate your contributions and purchases very, very much. Thank you! We will continue to accept contributions. If you'd like to help, visit our Contributions page.

If things are tough financially for you too, you can help us by using our Start Page as your Start Page or tell a friend about us.

Anthony has problems with Windows Update site
When attempting to access Windows Update using the link on the Start menu, the update checking page opens, and then displays an error page with the statement "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view." All attempts at accessing the Update site has failed and am at a loss as what to do. When attempting to initiate an email support request I get the standard "The page cannot be displayed" window. I've tried the solution page, nothing worked. even a Google search resulted in no help. Can Cloudeight help or do I need to do a reinstall of Windows XP Pro.

Common problem - many different ways to solve it. Read our answer here.

Jeanne goes round and round with her laptop problems
My laptop has Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 7, and Microsoft Office 2007. My dilemma...every time I open my laptop and begin WHAT EVER, I get a message that pops up saying : "Host Process for Windows Services stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available." I chatted live with Windows...they told me I had to contact the manufacturer of my laptop since Vista came preloaded on it. I called Toshiba, and they told me windows must be corrupt so they had me wipe it out and reinstall with the recovery cds that came with my laptop. I STILL get that message every time I open the laptop and begin doing something, seems to occur mostly when I open outlook and start doing emails. Does any one there have any idea of what is going on? Even though I used the recovery discs...I still get that same message. So THAT didn't help. Thank you so much. I trust you guys too :-) Jeannie

Windows Host Process errors and quite common - but the solution isn't always easy to figure out. Read our answer here.

Magically repair Windows XP?
Windows XP - Home, Media, Professional

You know the old adage - if something seems too good to be true, it usually is? When we first heard of Reimage we thought it was another gimmicky, quick fix, that couldn't possibly work the way it says it does.

In an era when big companies like Best Buy's Geek Squad spend millions and millions of dollars extolling the virtues(?) of its sundry services, many folks with broken computers will simply pick up the phone and call Geek Squad or another heavily-advertised computer repair service. It's not until the repair is finished that the computer owner realizes how Geek Squad can afford all those cute(?) Volkswagens and that multi-gazillion-dollar ad budget.  The shock is the bill - if you have your computer repaired in your home it will cost $299.95 - if you lug it into a Best Buy near you, you'll pay $199.95. And what do you get for that much money? Well, let's take a look:

If your computer isn't running well and is in need of repair - READ THIS before you call Geek Squad or someone else!

The town drunk gets job as school crossing guard
All computer users

What if your town hired the town drunk to be a school crossing guard? Would you feel comfortable if your children were in the care of someone who might be inebriated - and who surely wouldn't set a good example for them? No, you wouldn't.

But recently, Ask.com was lauded when they instituted a Safe Search for school children in conjunction with NASCAR - see "Ask.com Safe Search School’s program is doing very good, important work". "I truly believe that the Ask.com Safe Search School program is a program that could not only help protect kids from the dangers of the internet, but fundamentally change how we educate our youth, and how our children will become more internet savvy at a younger age." says the article's author John Lobdell.

You won't believe what Ask.com is up to now - thanks to a partnership with an unwitting NASCAR
