Danielle wants to know how to clear RAM without restarting Windows
I look forward to your InfoAvenue newsletters - I have been a subscriber for five years now. You two REALLY give excellent advice and answers.

I am have plenty of RAM but I am the kind of user who runs many programs at once. I switch back and forth between them, so it's more convenient to leave them running so I can access them quickly. I have purchased many of the products you've recommended including - Spyware Dr., Registry Mechanic, and CalendarPal - I LOVE IT!.

I have 4G of RAM on my Vista computer but still opening and closing MANY programs leaves JUNK/residue in the RAM which ultimately starts slowing me down. The only way I know to completely clear RAM is to reboot. Is there any utility out there that can completely clear the program residue out of RAM without rebooting my computer? I am betting your answer will help not only me but many of your readers.

Our answer
Yes there is a way, Danielle - Read the rest of our answer here.

A comment from David
I can't say enough about "Reimage". I have a new Windows 7 desktop, but I use my Windows XP laptop for work and when I travel. It's getting a little long in the tooth, but I have all my work programs and many personal programs on it - and I need to keep it running for another few years if possible. I really don't want to invest in a new laptop. But the old Windows XP laptop was running so poorly that I began to think its days were numbered.

Not wanting to pay the computer repair shop $99.95 just to look at it - and probably a couple hundred more to fix it, as a last resort I decided to spend $40 and try "Reimage". Frankly, I was a amazed. After using Reimage, my Windows XP laptop runs better than it has in a long, long time - almost as good as it did when I first got it. I am one happy "Reimage" customer. I highly recommend it to anyone who's thinking of giving up on their old computer and getting a new one. My XP laptop is darn near as good as new. What more can I say? Reimage saved me a ton of money and I couldn't be happier. Thank you both for recommending it.

Debbie is going on vacation and wants to know how to safely access her accounts from public computers and networks
I trust you guys to give me the correct information on this. I'm going to be on vacation for two weeks next month and I'll be traveling around the country quite a bit. There will be times when I'll need to check some of my online banking accounts and other personal accounts - and there may be times when I have to use public computers. Most other times I will be accessing the web from unsecured public networks with my laptops. Other than telling me not to do it (I have to) can you give me some tips on how to access the internet safely while traveling? I love your Premium newsletter! Thanks - Debbie.

Our answer
Accessing sites that contain highly personal or financial information from a public computer - or via a public wireless network - is fraught with danger. But there is away to foil crooks who crouch in corners with keyloggers and attempt to steal passwords, credit card numbers, and other personal information.

Visit this page to see our answer to Debbie - and learn how to safely access financial sites and other sites that contain sensitive data while using a public computer or public network.

What firewall vendors don't want you to know
Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7

Some of you may have noticed that Norton 360 now includes "LifeLock". So Norton now not only touts that its firewall can keep you safe from identity theft - but "LifeLock" can keep you even safer. The truth is, neither one can. Norton knows it. We know it. Anyone who understands how identity theft works knows it. If all you needed was a firewall to keep you safe, snug, and secure, why would Norton shell out millions of dollars to include the questionable LifeLock membership program in their security suite?

Those “Free" security scans could cost you time, money, and a whole lot more
Windows all versions

No doubt you're already too well aware that on your travels around the Web you're bound to be besieged by messages telling you to install and update security software for your computer. And, you might be tempted by a “free security scan,” especially when this program or that has detected “malicious software” on your computer. But, much to everyone's concern, that particularly scary message is most often (but not always) the first step in a very well planned consumer ( that means YOU) rip-off.

Reading this article could save you a lot of money, a lot of headaches and a lot of aggravation. Read the rest of it here.

Products we use and recommend:

  • Spyware Doctor - A great choice for spyware protection. Things aren't getting any better out there on the web. Choosing the right antispyware is as important as choosing the right antivirus. Our choice is Spyware Doctor. When you buy Spyware Doctor using our coupon code, you save 20! Get your coupon code and save 20% here.

  • Registry Mechanic - We trust it and we've used it for years. It helps keep all of our computers running at top performance. It's a registry cleaner - but it's a whole lot more too. You'll save 20% on Registry Mechanic with our special Cloudeight coupon code. Get your coupon code and more information about Registry Mechanic here.

  • Reimage - Before you call a computer repair tech or spend several hundred dollars - consider Reimage! In an era when big companies like Best Buy's Geek Squad spend millions and millions of dollars extolling the virtues(?) of its sundry services, many folks with broken computers will simply pick up the phone and call Geek Squad or another heavily-advertised computer repair service. It's not until the repair is finished that the computer owner realizes how Geek Squad can afford all those cute(?) Volkswagens and that multi-gazillion-dollar ad budget.  The shock is the bill - if you have your computer repaired in your home it will cost $299.95 - if you lug it into a Best Buy near you, you'll pay $199.95. And what do you get for that much money? If your computer isn't running well and is in need of repair - READ THIS before you call Geek Squad or someone else!

  • Roboform - What can we say other than this is the first thing we install on all our new computers? We couldn't live without it and we wouldn't either. We bought multiple copies of this program - long before we ever started recommending it. It's the best password manager you can buy. And if you have 10 or less passwords to say, you can even use the free version. We don't offer a discount on this product - but if you decide to buy and you buy through our link, we'll make a commission and you won't pay a penny more than you would if you bought it directly from Roboform. So, if you try it and you like it, buy it from us and help us help you! Roboform is one of our favorite programs. Get more information here.

  • Oops! Backup - 10% off for all Cloudeight subscribers. Oops! Backup is more than a backup program - it's piece of mind! Read our review of this unique and excellent backup program.

  • Get our 4.0 GB Security Flash Drive and get a coupon for 30% off Oops! Backup!

This week's Rant

Life Is Fair

So I go out to breakfast today. I ordered two braised eggs - don't ask - with sourdough toast and coffee. And I'm sitting there putting ketchup on my eggs when three young girls walk in. These girls are actually young ladies - but girls are girls to an older guy like me. Anyway, they are all wearing shorts - and I mean SHORTS - and sandals. I'm a leg guy so I can't tell you what kinds of tops they had on, to me it's irrelevant.

They sit down at a booth right across the aisle from me. Two girls sit on one side of the booth and one sits, by herself, on the other. And I am trying really hard not to look. And I try really hard to look and not look like I'm not looking. These girls are young and they are attractive. And not single one of them is blond. Yay! I really don't like blonds. I don't know why. Genetics?

Anyway, I'm not a typical guy by any means. I'm an anti-social curmudgeon - so my friend in Georgia tells me. But at that moment in time, I was feeling like the most sociable guy who ever lived. I mean I was absolutely brimming with sociability - literally dripping with it.

Sometimes you need to kill applications - a lot of them, all at once - yes, actually you do.  This program is an app-killer plus. You need this program, yes you do.

Oops! BackupOOPS! Backup
Oops!Backup is a backup program unlike any other we've ever seen. By now you know that we never recommend piecemeal backups - we urge all our readers to do comprehensive drive clone (or image) backups, because it's the only way to totally recover from a major computer disaster without losing any data. But you don't want to run an image backup restoration just to recover a few missing or inadvertently changed photos, documents, or other files. It's like using a fire hose to fill your dog's water dish. I'm so wonderful at examples :)

Oops!Backup is not a drive image backup program. It's not a piecemeal backup program. It's not a system restore program. It's ..it's...it's different. Oops!Backup monitors whatever folders and files you choose for any changes that are made. It allows you to go back in time to any version of a file you're working on whether it be a photo, document, or any other type of file.

What impressed us was the unique, sensible. totally easy-to-use interface. I mean, how hard is it figure out what "Go back in time and restore" means? It's so easy to use, even those who are software-challenged can figure it out -- without ever needing "Help". No help needed -- but there is help available should you ever need it. And if our experience with this company is any indication, their customer support will be superb.

Save 10% now on a program you'll really love and you really need!
