Windows 10 shuts off the numeric lock when you shut down or restart. There is registry fix but I am not comfortable messing with the registry. The Character Map can show all of the symbols that are available. You can use the Character Map to insert them or just write down the ones that you use on a 3X5 card to jog your memory.

Windows does not shut off the numeric keypad unless you have NUMLOCK turned on. I have 3 Windows computers (Windows 7 & Windows 10) and none of them disable the numeric keypad – so I’m not sure where you finding this information about this being a Windows problem.

      Thanks for your comments.

You can’t use the Number Keypad when the Numlock key is turned on. NumLock locks the numeric keypad, or at least it does on all my computers I think that’s why they call it “Numlock” It is a lock key, like Caps Lock and Scroll Lock. Its state (on or off) affects the function of some of the keys, If you turn off Numlock and your press 1 on the numeric keypad you get 1 . It you turn on Numlock, and you press 1 on the keypad you’ll get the same function as the END key. If you have numlock turned on, the number keys have functions like left arrow, right arrow, scroll up, scroll down, etc. When you turn off Numlock the numbers on the numeric keypad are numbers…1234567890

On my Number locked pad,….. I use numbers 167 to make a percentage degree icon when typing the temps. Such as º
Here’s how : hold the ALT key down > while pressing in this order = 167º , or etc.
Since I love recipes I use this daily.
