How to set up AOL mail in Outlook Express

Step 1:    Open Outlook Express Email program. Click Tools, then click Accounts.

Step 2:  Click Add

Step 3:  Click Mail from the drop down menu

Step 4: Type in AOL Account (we will adjust the name later). Then click Next.

Step 5:  Now type in your AOL email address, then click Next.

Step 6:  This part is very important! You must do this correctly!  Click IMAP where it says "My incoming mail server is a"...

Step 7: In this same window, type in imap.aol.com under "Incoming Mail". Then type in smtp.aol.com under "Outgoing mail". Then click Next.

Step 8:  Now type in your account name. Don't type in your entire email address here! Then type in your password.  Be sure :Remember Password" stays checked so you don't have to type it in every time you check your email. Click Next.

Step 9:  You will see the Congratulations window! Click Finish!

Step 10 (fine tuning!): Now you will be back to that first window for adding accounts and you will see imap.aol.com listed. We are going to fine tune things a bit, so click the aol mail account, then click Properties.

Step 11:  Type in a name for your AOL account, such as AOL (thats really all you need to type in!) Also, fill in your name (or company) and be SURE you type in your reply address and do it correctly!   Now you will have to click APPLY to make these changes stay put! Then on to the final step!!!  To get to the final step, click APPLY then click the tab that says SERVERS.

Step 12:  The three things you are going to do here are (1) In Servers window is put a check next to "My server requires authentication." Then click apply.  (2) Now click Advanced Tab, and In the Outgoing mail (SMTP): field, change the number that displays to 587.  Click Apply. (3) Then under IMAP tab UNCHECK "Store folders on IMAP Server" and click Apply, then OK.

All Done! You can set up AOL account along with other ISP and even a Hotmail account and then all your mail is going to one program! Cloudeight Help pages will guide you on the three steps to use to send our stationery in Outlook Express.  You can send to other AOL users even if they are still relying on AOL mail via AOL server.   If you receive a message prompting you to download folders from the mail server, click Yes.

Due to some configurations with AOL, they may be scrambling/corrupting the script for the scrolling as it goes through the AOL mail server. If this happens, you will have to send Funletters or Quicknotes until AOL resolves problems on their end.
