A Very Easy Way to Secure Your Browser and browse the Web more stealthily

By | February 1, 2014

Before we get into VPN and IP-address changers, we want to be honest with you: If you’re planning to do something illegal, these won’t help you. So don’t threaten your boss or your ex-spouse while hiding behind a fake IP address, a fake location or a VPN (Virtual Private Network)…you’ll probably get captured and exiled. The authorities have your tax money to hire really good hackers to hack away and if they hack away hard enough they’ll dig out your true IP address and location faster than you can say “EB wears a wig”.

But most Web sites don’t have tax dollars enough to pay really good hackers so most VPNs and IP address changers are enough to elude their tracking and geo-locaters. So don’t be surprised when you’re browsing around that you start seeing advertisements for Pretty Irish Dancing Ladies, even though your sitting in stable on a dude ranch in El Paso. This is not to say that pretty Irish Dancing Girls would not be welcome in El Paso; heaven knows the only things they have there are steers, tumbleweeds and dudes — all of whom (especially the dudes) would welcome pretty dancing ladies from Ireland wearing green –ya know 🙂

The only problem with setting up a VPN is that it is fairly complicated and most people don’t want to bother. But not to worry. The Irish Dancing Girls and I have found a solution to that – it’s called, um…darn..I keep forgetting the name of it…let me look…oh yes, its called SpotFlux – that’s named after EB’s dog Spot and TC who’s almost insane and in a constant state of flux. Not really – it’s just a strange name.

Anyway, right now it only works with Chrome — but that’s OK most of you have Chrome installed — and it works well and automatically. It connects you through a VPN network whenever you’re browsing the Web automatically and encrypts the page so theoretically no one can intercept the conversation between your computer and the Web server – thereby securing it. It’s also great for getting around ISP censorship of Web sites, and/or governmental or educational site censorship. Heaven forbid, we don’t want our college students googling “Muskrats”, do we?

I will stop rambling in just a moment, but first I want to show you a slide show containing 3 slides:

SpotFlux is a browser extension for Google Chrome — it installs quickly and requires no setup. Even EB can figure it out 🙂 It has a big green button you can press in case you want to log into your Gmail account or bank account both of which may get really nervous if someone from Borneo starts logging in to your U.S. Gmail account or your Home Savings and Loan accounts. So it’s best to disable the VPN protection when using accounts like Gmail or banking sites or PayPal. No sense getting your blood pressure up because your bank won’t let you log in, right?

Below you can see that it actually does change your IP address. The top picture is my “real” IP address (ha! ha!) and the picture below is my fake IP address. It’s kind of like having a phone number to give to people you don’t trust with your phone number — they can call you on the fake number but they’ll never know your real number.

In all seriousness, if you can keep your IP address hidden, and force each site to be encrypted, then your browsing the Web more stealthily and more securely — it’s kind of like the difference between walking down the street in your underwear or walking down the street in fully dressed with a top hat on. Plus, the Irish Dancing Girls would really love the top hat and treat you to a free shot of Old Bushmill — one of my favorites. And let me tell you — this is the fastest, easiest way to  set up and benefit from a VPN. It’s automatic.

I’m quite sure the author of this browser extension will seem dry compared to my colorful, witty prose, but we have to let him have his say, so you know what the heck his program actually does…between the Dancing Irish Girls and the tumbleweed and top hat, I’m almost certain you don’t yet have a clue what SpotFlux does. So here you go, the official scoop.

Encrypt your web browsing and protect your privacy and security from everyday internet threats.

SpotFlux encrypts all of your web browsing via SSL and increases your privacy by hiding your IP address. This chrome extension provides a “Free VPN in a Browser” by connecting you to the global SpotFlux security cloud.
