Find Waldo…Oops! Find the Correct Download Link

By | October 9, 2014

Let’s see if you can find the correct download link

This week, in our daily newsletter, we featured one of the oldest, most trusted freeware programs we’ve ever recommended. The program is still as good as ever and runs on all versions of Windows. However, the author, has changed his Web site and has fallen into the category of sites where obfuscating the real download link has become the norm.

Well, we got raked over the coals by some of our free newsletter readers who complained that the freeware we recommended was not free at all but cost $29.95. However, we tested the program both before and after the article appeared — and it was indeed freeware; there was no place in the program even to buy it, let alone a charge of $29.95. What happened to many was this: The clicked on an ad disguised as a download link. The did this for the reasons we so often caution you:

1. They were in a hurry
2. They didn’t read all of the information the author had written
3. They didn’t take common sense with them on the Web
4. They didn’t believe us when we told them it was freeware

While the download link is indeed obfuscated and buried, it’s not impossible to find. In fact, if you take time to read the entire description of the program – the link is easy to find.

Our test this week for you is: Can you find the correct download link?

The program is CleanUp! — it’s an oldie but a goodie. It’s a system cleaner that does a good job, and does it safely. It’s freeware. It’s not bundled with anything. We’re not guessing, we’ve tested it many times this past week.

Can you find the correct link for CleanUp! on the author’s site? Please let us know.

Here’s a link to the author’s site. Make us proud and tell us you found the correct download link.

No problem in finding the download link. Had forgotten all about this program & will once again make it part of my scheduled cleanup…(no pun intended).

I found the website without any problems whatsoever! I also have had this great program for a few years now, maybe longer! Whenever you first introduced it……boy, time flies by! It does a super job, but the best part of the program is the “flushing toilet”, sound! Love it! Must just be my sick sense of humor? LOL

MMMM – had no problem whatsoever finding the download link, the only thing asked for is “Please consider making a $3.99 donation before downloading this application”, and there is nothing wrong with that because they need to make a living and have bills to pay like everyone else.
All I can say – you’d have blind as bat not to find the download link, and YES it is FREE, I did miss having it, when I upgraded to a newer PC I lost it, and now I’m happy to have it back.
    Thanks a bunch.

I’ve had this program since you recommended it in March of 2013 although I have not installed or used it yet. I downloaded it again just to see and it downloaded just fine. A person always has to look very carefully and read the material before downloading something. It is very important to check the name in the box that comes up before you tell it to run or save to make sure it is indeed the program you wanted.

Was easy to find on the second page (reached by clicking on the arrow on the bottom of the website).
But the question I have, is it any better than Zappit! ?

Yes, that wasn’t even hard…..it’s on the se,cond page, just a bit under the PayPal button asking for donations – it’s called “CleanUp452.exe”.

Yes, I found it. No problem. It’s right there, on the left and the right. I too like the sound of a flushing toilet.

It is on page 2 and you do have to read carefully and learn to put blinders on for ads.

I found the link, too,, but I firmly believe it’s because I am “trained” by EB and TC. What I often wonder about is …. how much business (donations in this case) or repeat visits are lost because of the myriad of other “download” buttons that take you away from the intended download. Lots of visitors click on the wrong download button, get pissed off, and never return to the site again because they think they’ve scammed or “robbed”. I understand it’s advertising space sold just for survival of the site, but can’t the site owner make THEIR download button different? In this case, why can’t the button specifically say “DOWNLOAD CLEANUP”.

I’m still happily using Zappit. Is there any reason to switch, or have both installed?

I have used it before but on XP now I have Windows 8.1, and I found the down load button ok but when I checked the system requirements there is no mention of any other programme newer than XP. Also is it better than Zapper?

No problem finding the download link, no problem finding the ‘known issues/bugs linformation, no problem reading that the program is good for Windows 32 bit, not 64 bit .

There is an ad on Australian TV for spectacles, relating to people who miss something due to weak eyesight and the caption is, “Should Have Gone To SpecSavers”

“Look before you leap,”, ‘You can lead a horse to water, etc;………………………………”

I’ve downloaded this program before but went and checked this out anyhow. I not only didn’t have any problems finding the correct download link I didn’t even see a place to access that may have had a charge for the download. I’ve learned a lot in the years I’ve been using Cloudeight as my home page and reading all your tips, etc.

Your work and time is greatly appreciated.
