Go placidly…

By | October 23, 2013

After a series of controversial articles, we bring you peace. Hopefully this piece will touch something within and bring you serenity. We hope it makes you think about things in a different way. Maybe some of you have read it before, it’s one of those timeless pieces that you need to read over and over again. It reminds us that we are all children of the universe — and we all have a right to be here.

This is one of TC’s favorite things to read when things are not going well. We wanted to share it with you. Maybe you will find something in it that touches you too.

Please enjoy!

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.  Especially, do not feign affection.

Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,

And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be careful. Strive to be happy.

Thank you so much for this. In a world filled with so much hate and violence, we must never lose sight of all that is beautiful by putting God first in our lives, family and friends next . . . and then anything that follows is simply “stuff.”
    God bless you!

Lotta wisdom in those words…. but the world is rapidly changing before our eyes and not for the good. Evilness comes in all colors and directions.. it’s hard to remain mute.

I can’t believe it TC, the Desiderata has been a favourite life reference for me since I had discovered it years ago. I have felt, especially in troubling times, that if I can live in accordance with these written words, I will survive. These words especially keep giving me hope:

“You are a child of the universe. . .”

“With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

I just want to add my thanks to TC for sharing this with us. We would do well to remember the above. Perhaps we should keep it handy and read it often. We especially need to remember we are a child of God and do our best to please Him, then we will please others also.

Thanks so much, TC. In all my years, this is the first time I have ever seen this, much less read it. It is so true and there is something in it for everyone who reads it. The comments are very warm and made me think of the phrase, “If everyone lit one little candle, what a wonderful world this would be.” Thanks again as I do plan to print it and read often. With the world in the condition it is in right now, our faith and hope must be in God as all will go according to His Will.
