Mask Me: Hide your real email address from sites you’re not familiar with

By | July 29, 2013

If you sign-up for a lot of newsletters, free things, contests or other things online that require you to include your name and email address, this browser extension for Firefox and Chrome (sorry, I.E. users), Mask Me might be just the browser extension you’ve been looking for to protect your real email from the wrath of spammers.

You never know, if you’re signing up for something new online, who you can trust and who you can’t. And if you give your email address to someone who is going to turn around and sell it to spammers, then of course you’re going to be adding to the clutter of spam you already have.

There are a lot of free services on the Web that will create anonymous email addresses for you and forward them to your real email address, but Mask Me makes it faster and more convenient becuase it’s right there in your Web browser and makes it easy to insert your “masked” email address when you sign up for anything that requires your email address.

If you’re using Chrome or Firefox, you’ll want to learn more about Mask Me, and maybe even install the Mask Me browser extension for quick and easy form filling when signing up for anything which requires you to give your email address.

If you’re interested in learning more about Mask Me (the basic service is free of charge) then you’ll want to visit http://www.abine.com/maskme/

Oh, and your real name? Do you ever enter your real name on sites you’re not familiar with? Here are some suggestions

Andy Of Mayberry
Lucy N. Desi
Beaver Cleaver
Humpty Dumpty
King Beckensale
Ancient Mariner
William Shakespeare XIV
Little Bo Peep
Catcher In DeRye

It’s too bad that IE10 is not supported yet. Hope that Albine enables those of us who use IE10 the opportunity to install it to help shield up from the spammers, etc.
