Still looking for a good replacement for Microsoft Office?

By | January 24, 2014

Are you one of those who are still looking for the perfect replacement for Microsoft Office? Don’t like Open Office? Don’t like Google Docs? Do other online office apps leave you cold? If this sounds like you, we have another online office for you to review.

It’s probably the most Microsoft-like office replacement we’ve seen. If you look at the screenshot below, you can see it looks very Microsoft Office-like, don’t you think?

I wrote a little Docx document called “EB Hurts Me” – fully compatible with MS Word — to show you I really do try this stuff. It’s really important that I know what the heck I’m writing about. (I am sure that many of you are rolling your eyes and saying to yourself, “Since when?”.) OK be that way. But you can read an honest-to-goodness document I created using Teamlab Office Personal:

Teamlab Office Personal is free for, you guessed it, personal use. About the only complaint I have about this service is that you have to have a G+ or Facebook account to sign-up for it. But, oh well, I’m sure 4 out of 5 of you have a Facebook account and the other one has a G+ account. I’m so out-of-the-loop 🙂

So, my fine friends, if you’re still looking for an MS Office replacement you can really wrap your head around, perhaps you should give Teamlab Office a try. Hey, it’s free. All it will cost you is a little time.

Fast Question: Will this TeamOfficeLab software function on an Apple Laptop OS? or is it purely a MS Windows based program???

Sounds good……too bad I didn’t see this sooner. I am basically a Word Perfect lover……period. MSWord came on my new W8 computer last year. Honestly I did try to like it, but it was a REAL pain and it seemed like it took 2 or 3 steps to do what I could do with WP in one……if it could be done at all the way I wanted. I’d tried to install an old version of WP I owned but W8 did not like it……..it would work but would not save or print anything, so what good is that!! (We all know MS does not play well with others……never has, never will) I could not afford $249 for the new version of WP, so I went looking on Amazon. I found Word Perfect Office 6x for around $50. Now that much I could afford. I looked over the reviews and asked a couple of questions and was assured it would work with my W8. It is installed and working just fine, thank you very much. It doesn’t have all the extras that WP 12 does, but I have no need for those things anyway, so this suits me just fine and I can do the projects I want to do. (I’m retired and no longer need to do projects for a job, but do personal projects and projects for the church, etc. ) WP is also pretty durn good at converting other files as well. I haven’t tried them all, of course, but it converted my MSWord files just fine (with a bit of format nudging of course, but nothing big).
I do like to try out new stuff, though, so may just give this software you’ve talked of a try. I know you guys can be trusted not to lead my astray……….*wink*………..right?? (:>)

I have Windows 7 and find that Open Office is still my choice for a free office suite.

Kingsoft office has nothing to do with Google. Google has Google Docs. We once recommended Kingsoft, but after getting buried with emails from them, it’s hard to keep recommending them. That being said, if you like it – use it. But you have to download and install it — TeamLab is an online app — there is nothing to download and you can access it from all of your devices.

I’m confused. If this is a replacement for office, you didn’t mention any other
function beyond a word processor. However, I’m not even going to try this one no matter how good it might be. My primary reason is that
You have warned us so many times about secure passwords, and not to use the same one all
the time everytime everywhere we need one. It seems you can’t use anything these days without using your Facebook or Google+ ID and password to gain access. Seems that’s like putting your “security eggs” all in the same basket. Not a great idea from my point of view.
Thanks for providing another free choice for us, though.

Most programs allow you to create a login for their site, you can choose to login with facebook or google. choice, not necessary if you creat one specific for that site.

If you can find a way to create a separate account on this site, you have a better eye than I.

I was being hyperbolic — I should have said for Word and PowerPoint — sorry. There is no Excel or Access clone here. But the word processor works great; I can’t tell you about the PowerPoint clone, I didn’t try it.

Hi, if you are really looking for an excellent office suit that has the equivalent of of Microsft Office suit, for less than $60 dollars, then try the site below.
    https://www.ashampoo.com/uk/aud/pin/0538/Office_Software/Ashampoo-Office-2012
You can also buy the pro version for less than $100 which also includes an excellent Email client. I use the pro version on two computers running Windows 7 because of the Email client, having both, office suit & Email Client.
You would find that this office suit compares very favorably with the Microsft office suit and is fully, I mean, fully compatible with Microsoft Office suit, both versions, Standard and Pro.
You would only need the Pro version if you are looking for a very good Email client as well.
As for your in the cloud free office word processor, I am not the least bit impressed, not my ideal thing at all.
My internet connection would most likely let me down just when I wanted to use my Office suit—no thanks!
Any way, this is something to think about, I still think you are the best TC and EB and I take the opportunity to thank you once again for all your hard work for us computer bums! (I do take notice of what you have to say, ya know!)
    Jeff.

Thanks for paying attention to comments and suggestions here. If your
developers ever come up with a safe and secure log-in not dependent on Facebook
Google+, or any similar site, be sure to let TC and EB (InfoAve) know. If they approve, that’s
all I’ll need to give TeamLab Office a look.

From personal experience I think a good alternative would be CollateBox. Excellent for asset management and sharing spreadsheets online

It’s does not replace Office suites – it only does spread sheets. So CollateBox might be a good alternative for Excel but it’s not an alternative to MS Office which contains a word processor, a presentation maker, a database application and a spreadsheet applications. CollateBox does only spreadsheets.
