One thing we did find out is that not many people know how to copy from from a command window – so we’re going to show you how to do that now.<\/p>\n
In Windows 8 and Windows 10 press Windows Key + X to open the “power menu” and choose Command Prompt (Admin). In Windows 7, type CMD in the Start menu search and right-click it when it appears at the top and choose “Run as administrator”.<\/p>\n
Once you have the Command Prompt window open, type in the following command:<\/p>\n
IPCONFIG \/ALL<\/p>\n
Make sure you leave a space after the G and before the a slash><\/p>\n

If you followed the instructions above correctly, you now have a box showing you a lot of information about your Internet connection, your IP address, and other arcane stuff. So how do you copy all that information so you can paste it into a text file, a document or an email? You can\u2019t use Ctrl+A to copy it all and you can\u2019t highlight and use Ctrl+C. Try it.<\/p>\n
But you can copy it \u2013 and paste it into a test file, document or an email.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s the trick? Here\u2019s how you do it \u2013 the easy way:<\/p>\n

Right-click on the title bar. If you want to copy everything inside the DOS window, choose \u201cEdit\u201d then \u201cSelect All\u201d. Everything inside the DOS window will be selected. But wait! You can\u2019t right-click in the windows and choose \u201cCopy\u201d. As soon as you click (right or left-click) inside that Window, nothing will be highlighted and you\u2019ll have to start over. So, when everything is highlighted, right-click again on the title bar and choose \u201cCopy\u201d (copy will not be grayed-out if you have selected text in the box). Once you\u2019ve clicked \u201cCopy\u201d all of the text which was highlighted will be copied to the Windows clipboard; you can then paste it wherever you want.<\/p>\n
If you only want to select some of the information in the box, right-click on the title bar and choose \u201cMark\u201d. \u00a0You can now drag your cursor over the text you want to copy to\u00a0select it. Once the text is selected, right-click on the title bar again and choose \u201cCopy\u201d. The selected text will be copied and you can paste it in to a text file, document, email or Web page using Ctrl-V.<\/p>\n

There are a lot of Windows commands you can run to get more information about your computer, and sometimes you\u2019ll want to copy it and paste the information somewhere so you can save it. And guess what? Now you know how. Ain\u2019t it great?<\/p>\n
It will take some practice to get used to copying text from a command window, but once you learn it, you’ll use it.<\/p>\n
