How to Set a Home Page in Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox or MS Edge<\/h1>\n

This tip was updated again on May 27, 2018. You can use this tip to learn how to set a home page in Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, and\/or Edge.<\/em><\/p>\n

One of the questions we get asked most often is how to set a browser start page.\u00a0A browser start page, also called a home page, is the page (or pages) you see when you open your browser, We strongly suggest not setting more than one or two pages to open when you start your browser. If you use more than one or two home pages, it will take your browser longer to open.<\/p>\n

The fastest way (but certainly not the only way) to set a single home page in\u00a0Internet Explorer, Firefox or Chrome is to first\u00a0visit the page you want to make your home page \u2014for example \u2013\u00a0http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/start\/<\/a> \u00a0. Once you are on the page that you would like to make your home or start page, follow the instructions below for your favorite browser.<\/p>\n

Internet Explorer<\/h2>\n

First, go to the page you want to set as your home page. For example: https:\/\/www.google.com\/ (Google).<\/p>\n

Now click \u201cTools\/Internet Options\u201d. Assuming you only want one page to open when you open your browser\u2026 \u00a0clear any web addresses (URLs)\u00a0showing the home page box by highlighting them and deleting them.<\/p>\n

Next, in the dialog which appears click the button that says \u201cUse Current\u201d (See screen shot below):<\/p>\n

ABOVE: \u201cUse Current\u201d means the page you have open in Internet Explorer at the time you click \u201cUse current\u201d. Make sure you only have one page open when you do this. If you want Google as your home page, for example, make sure you\u2019re on the Google home page when you click \u201cUse current\u201d.<\/p>\n

Chrome<\/h2>\n

Open your Chrome browser.<\/p>\n

Click the Chrome Settings icon (top right \u2013 three vertical dots \u2026 see below):<\/p>\n

From the drop down menu which appears, click \u201cSettings\u201d (see below):<\/p>\n

Under the heading \u201cOn startup\u201d, tick the circle next to \u201cOpen a specific page or\u00a0 set of pages\u201d then click on \u201cAdd a new page\u201d(see below):<\/p>\n

Under add a new page, type the address of the site you want to be your home page. For example, our home page is http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/start\/ .<\/p>\n

After you type in the address of the site you want as your home page, click the \u201cAdd\u201d button.<\/p>\n

Now close Chrome and reopen it,\u00a0 Whatever site you typed in under \u201cAdd a new page\u201d will be your browser\u2019s home page.<\/p>\n

Firefox<\/h2>\n

Click on the settings icon at the top right ( 3 horizontal lines). Then choose Options from the Settings menu.<\/p>\n

In the General section that opens, under startup, next to \u201cWhen Firefox starts\u201d the button tick the radio button next to\u00a0\u201cShow your home page\u201d ,\u00a0 Under “Home page” type or paste the web address of the site you want open when you start Firefox. Note that you can also choose the current page you’re viewing, one of your bookmarks, or go back to he Firefox default.<\/p>\n

Microsoft Edge<\/h2>\n

Microsoft has vastly simplified setting home page. To set a home page in Edge, follow the instructions below:<\/p>\n

  1. Click on Edge\u2019s settings icon (3 dots). From the drop down settings menu find \u201cOpen Microsoft Edge with\u201d and click the down arrow.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    From the \u201cOpen Microsoft Edge with\u201d drop down menu, select \u201cA specific page or pages\u201d.<\/p>\n

    Type the URL (Web address) of the site you want to be your home page (below we used our Cloudeight Start Page URL which is http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/start\/ )\u2026<\/p>\n

    And don\u2019t forget to click the Save icon (see below) or all your work will be for naught.<\/p>\n
