Today, we’re going to remind you about one of the most basic time-saving things you can use in your daily computing life. Shortcuts. In today’s post we’re going to remind you how handy Ctrl Key shortcuts can be — and why you should use them whenever you can. They will save you time. And what’s more basic than time. We either have too much of it, or not enough it…<\/p>\n

OK ready? On to Ctrl Key Shortcuts!<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s say you\u2019re reading a page on the Web and you\u2019re looking for a particular word. Do you:<\/p>\n

a.) Scan the page manually for the word?<\/p>\n

b.) Use the browser\u2019s search feature in the browser toolbar?<\/p>\n

c.) Press Cntrl+F to open the page search dialog?<\/p>\n

d.) None of the above.<\/p>\n

The answer is C. If you\u2019re looking for a word on a page in your web browser, word processer, text editor, PDF viewer (and many other programs) just press Ctrl+F to open the \u201cFind\u201d dialog. Type in the word(s) you’re looking for and press Enter. That’s it! Just remember F stands for Find. Sure, you can use the program\u2019s search feature too, but why? The CTRL + F shortcut is faster and easier.<\/p>\n

OK. If you\u2019re on a page you want to print, do you search for \u201cprint\u201d on the toolbar, or look for a printer icons, or just press Ctrl+P? Right! You press Ctrl+P to print the page. It\u2019s the fastest way to print.<\/p>\n

OK now… you\u2019re using your browser and you want to open a new window? Do you just click the browser\u2019s shortcut to open a new browser window? Nah, just press Ctrl+N. Same thing if you\u2019re using an email program and you want to open a new email compose window. Ctrl + N and type your email.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re working on a document and you want to save it, you can press CTRL+S instead of clicking \u2018File\u2019 \u2018Save\u2019. If you want \u201cFile\u201d> \u201cSave as\u201d you’ll find that\u00a0 Ctrl+S\/ works in many applications.<\/p>\n

If you want to view your browser\u2019s history, with your browser open use the Ctrl key shortcup, Ctrl+H. And if you want to view a list of downloads, with your browser open press Ctrl+J.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s review:<\/p>\n

Ctrl+F = Find something on a page \u2013 in a browser, text editor, PDF editor, ebook, etc. To remember this easily, think F = FIND.<\/p>\n

Ctrl+P = Print the document you have open. Whether it\u2019s a web page, a Word doc, PDF file, text file, etc. Think P = PRINT.<\/p>\n

Ctrl+N = Opens new window in the program that\u2019s running. Think N = NEW.<\/p>\n

Ctrl+S = Saves the document you\u2019re working on. Think S = SAVE.<\/p>\n

Ctrl+H = Shows your browser\u2019s history. Think H = History<\/p>\n

Ctrl+J = Shows a list of downloads in your browser. Think J= ? I give up! J=Downloads! Junk?<\/p>\n

And let us not fail to mention these basic Ctrl Key shortcuts:<\/p>\n

Ctrl+A = Select All<\/p>\n

Ctrl+C = Copy<\/p>\n

Ctrl+V = Paste<\/p>\n

Ctrl+Z = Restores deleted files instantly when used immediately after deleting a file.<\/p>\n
