But to all of us who&#8217;ve been around Windows for a long time, it&#8217;s still the &#8220;System Tray&#8221; to us. Whether you call it the System Tray or the Notification Area, it&#8217;s\u00a0that part of the taskbar which shows your clock and icons of programs \/ services running in the background.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2018\/systray.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows Tips: The System Tray aka The Notification Area\" width=\"407\" height=\"235\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Above you can see the System Tray \/ Notification Area on Windows 10.\u00a0 If you have a lot of icons in your System Tray, that&#8217;s a pretty good indication that you have too many programs starting Windows.<\/p>\n<p>Windows 10 makes it pretty easy to control the System Tray \/ Notification Area. Just right-click on an empty area of your taskbar and click &#8220;Taskbar settings&#8221;. In Taskbar settings, scroll down to &#8220;Notification area&#8221; .<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2018\/systray1a.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve : The System Tray aka The Notification Area\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now click on &#8220;Select which icons appear on the taskbar&#8221; (but they really mean &#8220;Notification Area\/System Tray).<\/p>\n<p>The switch at the top &#8220;Always show all icons in the notification area&#8221; should be turned off; if it is not, you&#8217;re going to have a mess.<\/p>\n<p>You can turn individual icons on\/off here. But who would turn off the clock?<\/p>\n<p>So, whether you call it the System Tray or the Notification Area, it&#8217;s all the same.
