Here’s a tip for you advanced users who want to get the most out of the battery life on any Windows 7 laptop. Windows 7 includes a hidden tool that lets you \t\t\t\texamine and review your laptop’s energy use and helps you by \t\t\t\tmaking recommendations on how you can improve it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

To run the hidden tool in Windows 7 \t\t\t\tdo this:<\/p>\n

1. Open a command prompt as an administrator. (Type cmd in the \t\t\t\tstart menu search box. When the cmd icon appears at the top, \t\t\t\tright-click it and choose “Run as administrator.” from the \t\t\t\tright-click menu.<\/p>\n

2. At the prompt in the command window, type in the following:<\/p>\n

powercfg -energy -output \t\t\t\t\\c:\\users\\yourusername\\desktop\\Energy.html<\/p>\n

(Replace “yourusername” with your Windows user name. You can \t\t\t\tsave the output file anywhere you like, we chose the Desktop for \t\t\t\tconvenience.)<\/p>\n

3. It will take a minute or a bit more for Windows to examine \t\t\t\tyour power consumption and usage. Then it will analyze the data \t\t\t\tand create an easy-to-use report for you in HTML format; by default this file will be placed on your desktop. You can \t\t\t\tread it with your default web browser.
