How to Make Windows 10’s File Explorer Open to This PC instead of Quick Access\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>

Back in the old days it This PC was called My Computer, and everyone was fine with that.\u00a0 Then later, Microsoft, thinking that calling it My Computer would make people think every computer was their computer, dropped the My and it became Computer. Then the older people got booted out of Microsoft and some guy whose name I can\u2019t spell took over, hired a bunch of new people and noww it\u2019s not My Computer or Computer, it\u2019s This PC.<\/span><\/p>\n

This PC is still My Computer \/ Computer. A rose by any other name, you know. Now what\u2019s my point? My point is that when you click \u201cFile Explorer\u201d (Windows Explorer\u2019s name in Windows 10) you don\u2019t see your hard drive(s) you see the Quick Access menu. Some us, like me for instance, like to see My Computer\/Computer they way we used to with all the hard drives visible. And no matter how convenient Quick Access is supposed to be. Quick Access is sort of like Libraries. We\u2019ll save that discussion for another time. More importantly, when you open File Explorer to Quick Access, you won’t see your hard drives in he right pane.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019re going to show you how to change File Explorer so it opens up with This PC (formerly known as Computer and My Computer). And it\u2019s very simple. It\u2019s so simple in fact, you\u2019ll be able to do it faster than you were able to read this tip.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ready?<\/span><\/p>\n

Step #1:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Open File Explorer. You can do this a bunch of ways \u2013 here are three:<\/span><\/p>\n

Click start & click \u201cThis PC\u201d\u00a0<\/span>
\nClick the folder icon on your taskbar<\/span>
\nPress the Windows Key + E<\/span><\/p>\n

Note that will open to \u201cQuick access\u201d (highlighted in yellow below).<\/span><\/p>\n

Step #2:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s change this so it opens up to This PC (My Computer\/Computer).<\/span><\/p>\n

Click View (at the top \u2013 see red box)<\/span>
\nClick Options (see red arrow)<\/span>
\nSelect Change folder and search options \u2013 highlighted in yellow below:<\/span><\/p>\n

\nStep #3:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In Folder Options, next to \u201cOpen File Explorer to: \u201d use the down arrow to select This PC. Then click Apply\/OK.<\/span><\/p>\n

Behold! It\u2019s My Computer\/Computer\/This PC \u2013 just like it used to be in days of old.<\/span><\/p>\n

So now you know how to make File Explorer open to This PC in Windows 10. If you ever want to go back to having File Explorer open to Quick Access, follow the steps above and select Quick Access instead of This PC in step 3 above.<\/span><\/p>\n
