You don\u2019t need to download anything, all you need to do is run a simple command and follow simple on-screen prompts. You&#8217;ll also a USB flash drive. It won&#8217;t do you a whole lot of good to back-up your Windows credentials on the same hard drive on which Windows is installed.\u00a0 So, plug in a flash drive and let&#8217;s go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Step #1. \u00a0Open a Run box. You can do this quickly by pressing &amp; holding down the Windows Key and tapping the R Key.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Step #2. Type CREDWIZ in the Run box and press Enter (or click \u201cOK\u201d)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Step #3. Make sure the circle next to <em>\u201cBack up your stored user names and passwords&#8230;&#8221; <\/em>\u00a0is selected. It should be selected by default. Then click \u201cNext\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2017\/credwiz1.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve Windows tips &amp; tricks\" width=\"486\" height=\"464\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Step #4. Chose a location to save your backup. DO NOT SELECT DRIVE C:\\ (or the drive where Windows is installed). Select a USB flash drive or an external drive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">As you can see below, I\u2019ve chosen my external drive (Drive F) as the location to store my Windows credentials backup. I called my file windows-credentials\u2026 but you can name yours whatever you want \u2013 as long as you will recognize what it is. It will automatically be given the file extension .crd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Click \u201cNext\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2017\/credwiz2.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve Windows tips &amp; tricks\" width=\"480\" height=\"460\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">When you click \u201cNext\u201d you\u2019ll see the window shown below. In order to proceed with your backup, you\u2019ll need to press the CTRL + ALT + DELETE keys. When you do, it will bring up a password box. You should password protect your backup file with a password you\u2019ll remember. Or write it down and save it someplace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2017\/credwiz3.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve Windows tips &amp; tricks\" width=\"480\" height=\"496\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">After you\u2019ve given your Windows credentials backup file a password, you\u2019ll get a notice that your user names and passwords were backed up successfully to whatever location you chose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Should you ever need to restore your Windows credentials, open a Run box, type in CREDWIZ and press Enter, and this time select \u201cRestore your stored user name and passwords\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2017\/credwiz4.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve Windows tips &amp; tricks\" width=\"480\" height=\"483\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">That&#8217;s it. If you have to reinstall Windows,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">If you want to see what your credentials are, and you&#8217;re fairly good with Windows, download\u00a0 &#8220;CredentialsFileView&#8221; from Nirsoft. It&#8217;s free and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nirsoft.net\/utils\/credentials_file_view.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> available from this page<\/span><\/a>. Be sure y0u download the correct file for your computer.
