It’s not another security toolbar. It’s not a security program at all. It will help you find things that may be lurking on your computer and skulking around unseen. It will let you kill questionable processes and delete dangerous files. But don’t go deleting stuff just because this program identifies them as questionable. It’s OK to kill a process, processes can be restarted. But deleting a file can’t be brought back from the dead so easily. When in doubt about a file that’s listed as questionable, google it before you delete it.

You say you have great security programs? That might be true, but security programs are not 100% infallible. We don’t live in a perfect world, and they cyber world is even less perfect. So something may have gotten got past your security programs or maybe they’re just ordinary things running in the background and not causing problems. Or maybe you just ignore us every week and don’t have any security programs installed and you’re relying on sheer luck, you don’t care, or you’re starring in “Groundhog Day II” …

Anyway… Emsisoft HiJackFree is an analysis tool for (they say) “advanced users”. But, how advanced do you have to be to click “search Google”? Not too advanced, right? So why they want to limit their users to “advanced users” only they can tell you. We think this is a tool that everyone could use. It shows you everything that’s running on your computer – more background information than we’ve ever seen in one program. It highlights things that require your attention. They’re not saying these things are dangerous, they’re just saying it’s something you need to look at. When the program doesn’t have any information about the program or service in question, it provides a link to “search Google” for more information about the program or service. You sure don’t need to be an advanced user to use HiJackFree or to benefit from it.

Here’s what the developer says – and we think he uses “advanced users” incorrectly, but anyway, here’s what he says:

“Emsisoft HiJackFree is a detailed system analysis tool which helps advanced users to detect and remove all types of HiJackers, Spyware, Adware, Trojans and Worms.

* Manage all types of Autoruns on your system
* Control all Explorer and Browser plugins (BHOs, Toolbars, etc.)
* Manage all running Processes and their associated modules
* Control all Services, even those Windows doesn’t display
* View open ports and the associated listening processes
* View all DNS entries in the hosts file
* Manage installed Layered Service Providers (LSPs)
* Analyze the system configuration with using our live online analysis
* Download a-squared HiJackFree now!
