But did you know that when you open up a Run box, you open up a world of commands. And just seriously complex commands made for geeky people. Many are for normal folks like you and me&#8230; and the ones we&#8217;re going to show you can come in handy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2019\/runboxrun.png\" alt=\"Windows Tips and Tricks - Cloudeight InfoAve\" width=\"396\" height=\"205\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style803\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Moving right along&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style803\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Did you know that you can open programs or web pages from a Run command?\u00a0 You can open folders and run Windows commands as well. The Run command is not just for geeks in dirty sweat pants sitting around in dank, musty basements surrounded by computer screens and billows of e-cigarette smoke. The Run command works for ordinary folks too &#8212;\u00a0 and we are going to prove it to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Use the Windows Key+R keyboard shortcut to open the Run dialog box &#8212; hereinafter called &#8220;the Run box&#8221;. Type the name of a program in the Run box and press Enter. For instance, try typing Chrome and then tapping Enter key. If Chrome is installed, it will open. You can try other programs too, but keep in mind,\u00a0 If the program does not open, some programs require you to be a geek and type in file path too.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style803\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">But we&#8217;re not geeks so we&#8217;re going to show you some applications you can open from a Run box for which you don&#8217;t need no stinkin&#8217; file paths.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style803\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Enough bloviating! Let&#8217;s try some Run box magic right now.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Press &amp; hold down the Windows Key and tap the R key. The Run dialog will open. Now enter any of the following in the Run box and press Enter:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Notepad<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">MSINFO32<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">WordPad<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">iexplore.exe (Internet Explorer)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">RSTRUI.exe (System Restore)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">MSPaint (Microsoft Paint)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">MSCONFIG (Configuration utility)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">SERVICES.MSC (Windows Services)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">WRITE (Opens WordPad)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Chrome (if Chrome is installed)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Firefox (if Firefox is installed)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">MSEdge (Opens Edge in Windows 10)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Thunderbird (if Thunderbird is installed)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Winver (displays your current Windows version)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Taskmgr (opens Task Manager)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Calc (opens the Windows Calculator)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Documents (opens your Documents folder)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Downloads (opens your default Downloads folder)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Music (opens your default Music folder)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Videos (opens your Videos folder)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Explorer (opens File Explorer (Windows 8 &amp; Windows 10. Windows Explorer in Windows 7)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Shutdown \/R (restarts your computer)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Shutdown (shuts down your computer)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You can also enter a URL (Web page address) directly into a Run Command and open up any webpage in your default browser. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Try <strong>www.thundercloud.net\/start\/<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style803\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">There are tons of other commands too, but woe is me, I\u2019m tired of trying to think of them!
