Joan asks about our recommendation of IncrediMail<\/strong>
\nTC and EB You Are The Best! Cloudeight is a Godsend! \t\t\t\t\t\tI have sent you a few queries in the past, and you have responded quickly and succinctly. I thank you for those \t\t\t\t\t\ttimes. When I made to switch from Windows XP to Windows \t\t\t\t\t\tVista…then Windows 7, I finally had to let go of that EXCELLENT….WONDERFUL Email program OUTLOOK EXPRESS. At \t\t\t\t\t\tthat time, you had found that Incredimail had ‘cleaned \t\t\t\t\t\tup its act’ somewhat, and not only endorsed their Email \t\t\t\t\t\tprogram, but also designed stationery compatible with \t\t\t\t\t\ttheir program. I am asking you now, whether you still \t\t\t\t\t\tfeel that same comfort with them as you did back \t\t\t\t\t\tthen…OR, are you beginning to become disenchanted with \t\t\t\t\t\tthem? I ask this because I am getting sick and tired of \t\t\t\t\t\ttheir interference with my Email program usage. More, \t\t\t\t\t\tand more interruptive advertising is becoming not only \t\t\t\t\t\tdisruptive….but constant updates or upgrades are \t\t\t\t\t\tcausing me problems with my PC’s performance and \t\t\t\t\t\tsettings. <\/span><\/p>\n

I remember you were at one point working on the \t\t\t\t\t\tdevelopment of an Email program like OE, but found that \t\t\t\t\t\tit was a very expensive project, and weren’t sure \t\t\t\t\t\twhether you could actually deliver. Are you still in the \t\t\t\t\t\tprocess of this….or have you put it aside because of \t\t\t\t\t\teconomic conditions still being bogged down and \t\t\t\t\t\texpansion at this point is difficult for any \t\t\t\t\t\tbusiness….let alone a small (GREAT) one like \t\t\t\t\t\tCloudeight? Oh, how I wish I were a wealthy \t\t\t\t\t\tperson….instead of just an ordinary old age pensioner \t\t\t\t\t\twith pennies becoming harder and harder to pinch in \t\t\t\t\t\thalf…..I would love to say,”GO FOR IT! I WILL SPONSOR \t\t\t\t\t\tYOU!” But I can’t say that. What I wonder, though, is \t\t\t\t\t\tthis: Might you be able to launch a fund drive that we \t\t\t\t\t\tfaithful, appreciative members of Info Ave Newsletter \t\t\t\t\t\tcould donate towards the realization of your dream to \t\t\t\t\t\tcreate an Email program that would allow us to use \t\t\t\t\t\tstationery and enjoy our Email once again as we used to \t\t\t\t\t\twith OE??? I would also like to know if there is another \t\t\t\t\t\tEmail program that!<\/span><\/p>\n

Our answer
\n<\/strong>Hi Joan. Thanks for all the nice comments! You’d have \t\t\t\t\t\tto be a very wealthy person to fund the development of \t\t\t\t\t\tsuch a complex email program such as Outlook Express. \t\t\t\t\t\tWhen we looked into it, to hire the staff we’d need to \t\t\t\t\t\tdevelop a program like Outlook Express would cost well \t\t\t\t\t\tover $300,000. That’s almost as much as EB makes! No! \t\t\t\t\t\tNo! No! I’m kidding. Really I am kidding. There hasn’t \t\t\t\t\t\tbeen much in the way of extra funds these past few years \t\t\t\t\t\t– there’s just no way we’d ever be able to raise that \t\t\t\t\t\tkind of money. Even if we could, security would \t\t\t\t\t\tconstantly need to updated and that would cost money. An \t\t\t\t\t\temail program like Outlook Express would become a money \t\t\t\t\t\tpit for us – and we’d surely be taken down with a \t\t\t\t\t\tproject that expensive and that complex. So we put it \t\t\t\t\t\taside. If one of us ever wins the Mega Millions, we’ll \t\t\t\t\t\thave an email program for you. Otherwise… sorry!<\/p>\n

As for our recommendation of IncrediMail, we’ve not \t\t\t\t\t\tchanged our opinion. However, we never recommended the \t\t\t\t\t\tfree version of IncrediMail because, as you so vividly \t\t\t\t\t\tpoint out, it’s adware. And anytime you install adware \t\t\t\t\t\tyou have to put up with the ads – and some adware is \t\t\t\t\t\ttantamount to spyware. We’re not saying that free \t\t\t\t\t\tversion of IncrediMail is spyware but it is loaded with \t\t\t\t\t\tads. Actually we only recommend the premium version of \t\t\t\t\t\tIncrediMail – which is, of course, not free. You either \t\t\t\t\t\tpay for IncrediMail with aggravation caused by the ads \t\t\t\t\t\tor you pay for it with money – but only once.<\/p>\n

Our Vista\/Windows Mail stationery works in \t\t\t\t\t\tThunderbird, an email program by the folks that make \t\t\t\t\t\tFirefox. Thunderbird is free and any of our stationery \t\t\t\t\t\tfor Windows Mail will work in Thunderbird. Thunderbird \t\t\t\t\t\tis a program you might want to look into if you’re not \t\t\t\t\t\twilling to buy IncrediMail Premium.
