This does not apply to Windows 10 version updates. If a version update causes you problems, by default, you have 10 days to go back to the previous version of Windows 10. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #666699; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thundercloud.net\/infoave\/new\/go-back-to-the-previous-version-of-windows-10\/\"> See our article here<\/a> <\/span>if you have a version update that&#8217;s causing problems.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"auto-style1\" style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">By default, Windows 10 keeps your device is automatically updated with the latest features, security patches, and bug fixes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br class=\"auto-style1\" \/><br class=\"auto-style1\" \/><span class=\"auto-style1\" style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Anyone using Windows for any length of time knows that sometimes a Windows 10 update can cause problems with your PC. In this case, you&#8217;ll need a way to prevent the problematic update from reinstalling automatically the next time Windows Updates are installed.<\/span><br class=\"auto-style1\" \/><br class=\"auto-style1\" \/><span class=\"auto-style1\" style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">If an update is causing system crashes, problems, or instability on your PC, follow the instructions below, to prevent the troublesome update from being reinstalled\/<\/span><br class=\"auto-style1\" \/><br class=\"auto-style1\" \/><span class=\"auto-style1\" style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Right-click on the Start button and click &#8220;Settings&#8221;. When the Settings app opens, click on &#8220;Update &amp; Security&#8221; &gt; &#8220;Windows Updates&#8221;. You have more work to do if you want to prevent Windows from reinstalling a trouble-causing update.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span class=\"auto-style1\">For some reason, since January 2021, the link to the &#8220;&#8216;Show or hide updates troubleshooter&#8221; on Microsoft&#8217;s site doesn&#8217;t work. Despite numerous inquiries about the broken link &#8211; and promising to fix it &#8211; as of today, July 7, 2021, it&#8217;s still broken.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span class=\"auto-style1\">But no worries. Thanks to the Internet Archive, better known as &#8220;The Wayback Machine&#8221;, you can still download the &#8216;Show or hide updates troubleshooter&#8221; to prevent a troublesome update from being reinstalled.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span class=\"auto-style1\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190208013517\/https:\/download.microsoft.com\/download\/f\/2\/2\/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21\/wushowhide.diagcab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Download the &#8220;Show or hide updates&#8221; troubleshooter now<\/strong><\/a><\/u><strong>.<\/strong><br class=\"auto-style1\" \/><br class=\"auto-style1\" \/><span class=\"auto-style1\" style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Save the troubleshooter to your PC, then click to run it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"auto-style1\" style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Opening <em>wushowhide.diagcab<\/em> launches the troubleshooter; click Next to proceed. Then follow the instructions provided to hide the problematic driver or update.<\/span><br class=\"auto-style1\" \/><br class=\"auto-style1\" \/><span class=\"auto-style1\" style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">When the program starts to run, it will scan your computer for updates. When it&#8217;s done, a window like the one below will open.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"auto-style1\" src=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2018\/vuh3a.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve\" width=\"599\" height=\"469\" \/><\/span><br class=\"auto-style1\" \/><span class=\"auto-style1\" style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Click on &#8220;Hide updates&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Windows will display any pending updates:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"auto-style1\" src=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2020\/hide-updates.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve\" width=\"573\" height=\"442\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">You&#8217;ll see a list of available updates. Select the update that is (or updates that are) causing you problems. Windows will not reinstall the items you select.\u00a0 You can choose to install the hidden updates later by running the troubleshooter again and &#8220;unhiding&#8221; the updates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Keep in mind that this does not stop updates from installing. It allows you to uninstall updates that have been installed and are causing problems.
