We gave her numerous fixes to try, but none of them worked for her. Then we told her about the File and Folder troubleshooter from Microsoft. She downloaded it and ran it, and her problem was fixed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">So, if you\u2019re using Windows 8.1 or any version of Windows 10 and you are having problems emptying the Recycle Bin, icons displaying instead of thumbnails, deleting files and folders, renaming files or folders, moving files or folders, your desktop icons change randomly, or you\u2019re having other problems with files and folders,\u00a0 Microsoft offers a free troubleshooter to help you diagnose and fix these and other annoying files, folders, and shortcuts problems.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">The Microsoft \u201cFile and Folder Troubleshooter\u201d can fix problems such as these.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"x-hidden-focus\">\n<li><span class=\"x-hidden-focus\" style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You\u2019re unable to\u00a0empty the Recycle Bin or delete a file or a folder inside the Recycle Bin.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">When you try to rename or move a file, you receive the following error message: \u201cThe file or folder does not exist.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">When you copy, move, rename, or delete a file on a network share, you receive the following error message: \u201cThere is a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost\u201d or \u201cThe folder does not exist. The file may have been moved or deleted. Do you want to create it?\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Your View settings or customizations for one or more folders may be lost or incorrect.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You\u2019re unable to use keyboard shortcuts to select more than one item in Windows Explorer, or you\u2019re unable to select multiple items in a Windows Explorer window by holding the Shift key or the Ctrl key while you select the items.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Some icons in My Computer, in Windows Explorer, on the desktop, or on the Quick Launch Bar change randomly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">No matter what you do, or what settings you change, you can only see icons for pictures in folders and never thumbnails.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">If you have any of the problems listed above, give the Windows File and Folder Troubleshooter a try.
