How to Force File Explorer to Open to This PC Instead of Quick Access in Windows 10\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When you click \u201cFile Explorer\u201d in Windows 10, the default view is Quick Access.\u00a0 When you view File Explorer in Quick Access view, you won’t don\u2019t see your hard drive(s) displayed in Quick Access. But some of us, like me for instance, prefer to see a more traditional view that shows my hard drives and other drives in addition to the Documents, Downloads, Pictures, Music, etc. folders.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019re going to show you how to change File Explorer, so it opens with This PC (formerly known as Computer or My Computer).\u00a0 It\u2019s quite simple. It\u2019s so simple in fact, you\u2019ll be able to do it faster than it takes you to read this tip.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let’s change the default view of File Explorer from “Quick Access” to “This PC”.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Step #1:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Open File Explorer. You can do this a bunch of ways \u2013 here are three:<\/span><\/p>\n

a. Right-click the Start button and click “File Explorer”.<\/span>
\nb. Click the folder icon on your taskbar<\/span>
\nc. Press the Windows Key + E<\/span><\/p>\n

If you have not changed your settings, File Explorer will open to \u201cQuick access\u201d (highlighted in yellow below). The default view is Windows system folders and Recent files. No drives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step #2:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s change File Explorer so it opens to “This PC” (My Computer\/Computer).<\/span><\/p>\n

a.\u00a0 Click View (at the top of File Explorer \u2013 see red box)<\/span>
\nb. Click Options (see red arrow)<\/span>
\nc.\u00a0 Select Change folder and search options \u2013 highlighted in yellow below:<\/span><\/p>\n

\nStep #3:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In Folder Options, next to \u201cOpen File Explorer to:\u201d use the down arrow to select “This PC”. Then click Apply\/OK.<\/span><\/p>\n

Close File Explorer and reopen it.\u00a0 And now you’ll see your system folders and your drives.<\/span><\/p>\n

And that’s all there is to making File Explorer open to “This PC” instead of “Quick Access” in Windows 10. If you ever want to go back to opening File Explorer to Quick Access, select Quick Access instead of This PC in step 3 above.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
