“…We can tell you that there isn’t much money in telling the truth. \t\tIt’s a sad fact. Every week we try to sift through the garbage and give \t\tyou the truth. Even when the economy was good, we weren’t getting rich, \t\tand now that it’s bad, we’re struggling week to week. But as long as \t\twe’re able to do it, we’ll continue to tell you the truth. We’ve been on \t\tthe web for 15 years and we’ve seen it all. We were once new to \t\tcomputers and to the Internet and we too were once naive We’ve been \t\tsnookered into buying software we didn’t need. We’ve been afraid to \t\tclick a link, we’ve been confused by conflicting information and \t\tmisinformation.<\/p>\n

We took the time to find reliable sources for information, to learn who \t\twe could trust and who we couldn’t – and when we started our own Web \t\tsites in 1997 we committed to share with anyone who would listen the \t\ttruths we had learned. We could have been rich if, in the heyday of \t\temail stationery we would have bundled questionable software with our \t\tstationery. During the Christmas season, we were averaging 50,000 \t\tdownloads a day, and we had offers from companies that wanted us to \t\tbundle their software with ours of up to 50 cents per download. You do \t\tthe math. We could have made $25,000 a day, on busy days, and $10,000 a \t\tday on average days, but we wouldn’t do that to our customers and \t\tvisitors. We didn’t want to violate their trust. Needless to say, had we \t\tdone that, we’d not be struggling now. But then again you probably \t\twouldn’t be reading this because you wouldn’t have trusted a word we \t\twrote.<\/p>\n

The truth can set you free, and the truth can get you free of all those \t\tannual subscriptions for expensive security software – you can get most \t\tof the security software – and top quality software too – free of \t\tcharge. But there’s a lot more money in misinformation than in truth. \t\tThere’s a lot more money in using misinformation and preying on the \t\tna\u00efvet\u00e9 of the average user to sell unnecessary software, than there is \t\tin telling the truth. There’s a lot more money, if you can live with the \t\tdeceit and dishonesty, in creating imaginary but believable phantoms, \t\tdemons, and computer-horror scenarios, and selling software to protect \t\tusers from these specters, than there is in telling the truth.<\/p>\n

We know all the angles and we know all the tricks. We know all the \t\tangels and we know all the devils. We know how we could make a lot of \t\tmoney, but something inside us both just won’t let us violate the trust \t\tof those who count on us to tell it the way it really is – maybe it’s \t\tintegrity or maybe it’s stupidity. Your trust is worth more than money \t\tto us. We still believe if we do a good job for you and share the truth \t\twith you, we’ll do all right. We may be wrong – but we hope we’re right.<\/p>\n

We are committed to telling you the truth, and to helping you find those \t\tislands of truth in the vast sea of misinformation.<\/p>\n
