Windows 11: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The following Windows 11 FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) come directly from Microsoft.\u00a0 Since many of you have similar questions, we are publishing these questions and answers from Microsoft as a guide. Hopefully, this guide will answer your questions, not only about Windows 11 but also about Windows 10. <\/span><\/p>\n In their answers to customer questions, Microsoft points out that Windows 10 will continue to be a “great” operating system. They also point out that Windows 10 will not only be supported until October 14, 2025, and will continue to be updated.<\/span><\/p>\n Windows\u00a011 has all the power and security of Windows\u00a010 with a redesigned and refreshed look. It also comes with new tools, sounds, and apps. Every detail has been considered. All of it comes together to bring you a refreshing experience on your PC. Some Windows\u00a010 features are not available in Windows\u00a011, see\u00a0Windows\u00a011 Specifications<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n PCs with Windows\u00a011 pre-installed will be available later this year.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n It depends! Many different manufacturers will offer a variety of devices that will run Windows\u00a011, all at different price points.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n PCs that come with Windows\u00a011 pre-installed will be available from a broad selection of retailers later this year. Details to come.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n If your accessories worked with Windows\u00a010 and meet the Windows\u00a011 requirements, they should work with Windows\u00a011. If you want to be sure, please check with your accessory manufacturer.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Most Windows\u00a010 PCs currently being sold will be able to upgrade to Windows\u00a011. For the PC to be able to upgrade to Windows\u00a011, it must meet the\u00a0minimum hardware specifications and specific hardware is required for some features<\/a>. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalized but is scheduled to begin late in 2021 and continue into 2022. Specific timing will vary by device.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n There are a few ways to find out. If you\u2019re currently shopping for a new PC look for \u201cFree upgrade to Windows\u00a011\u201d on the fact tag. You can also ask your retail sales professional to confirm.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n If your existing Windows\u00a010 PC is running the most current version of Windows\u00a010 and meets the\u00a0minimum hardware specifications<\/a>\u00a0it will be able to upgrade to Windows\u00a011. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalized, but for most devices already in use today, we expect it to be ready sometime in early 2022. Not all Windows\u00a010 PCs that are eligible to upgrade to Windows\u00a011 will be offered to upgrade at the same time. Windows\u00a010 continues to be a great version of Windows. We have committed to supporting Windows\u00a010 through October 14, 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Upgrades to Windows\u00a011 will begin to roll out late in 2021 and continue into 2022. During this time, we will be doing some behind-the-scenes testing and validating for your specific PC. Windows Update will provide an indication if and when your PC is eligible. You can check by going to Settings\/Windows Update.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n It\u2019s free. But only Windows\u00a010 PCs that are running the most current version of Windows\u00a010 and meet the minimum hardware specifications will be able to upgrade. You can check to see if you have the latest updates for Windows\u00a010 in Settings\/Windows Update.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n An update can consist of bug and security fixes and new features in a version of Windows. They tend to roll out throughout the year. An upgrade is when you change versions\u2014for example, moving from Windows\u00a010 to Windows\u00a011, or moving editions from Windows Home to Windows Pro.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The free upgrade offer does not have a specific end date for eligible systems. However, Microsoft reserves the right to eventually end support for the free offer. This end date will be no sooner than one year from general availability.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Yes. You do not have to upgrade to Windows\u00a011. We will continue to support Windows\u00a010 until October 14, 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n No. Windows\u00a011 and Windows\u00a010 require approximately the same amount of disk space. During the upgrade process, however, extra space is required. Windows will clean up this extra disk space about 10 days after the upgrade is complete.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Windows\u00a011 is the newest version of Windows. However, we will continue to support Windows\u00a010 until October 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n By default, all your files and data will transfer. After you have installed the Windows\u00a011 upgrade, there is a 10-day period where you can move back to Windows\u00a010 while keeping files and data that you brought along with you. After the 10 days, you will need to back up your data and do a \u201cclean install\u201d to move back to Windows\u00a010.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Downloading and installing Windows\u00a011 will most likely take longer than a typical Windows\u00a010 feature update. You can use your PC while you\u2019re downloading Windows\u00a011 and then you have the option to schedule the install to happen at a specific time when you aren\u2019t planning on using your PC.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n If your PC meets the minimum hardware specifications, the Windows\u00a010 Home edition in S mode can upgrade to the Windows\u00a011 Home edition in S mode. If your Windows\u00a010 PC is running the Pro edition in S mode, you will need to switch out of S mode to upgrade to Windows\u00a011 Pro.
