Windows updates may be a lot of things, but they don\u2019t install malware or adware on your computer. And many people tell us they think all the ads started with a Windows update.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">It\u2019s natural when things change to blame the last thing that changed on your computer \u2013 if that was a Windows update \u2013 it gets the blame. But Windows updates do not install bad extensions in your favorite browser. But many other tricky software bundles do.\u00a0 In this era of chicanery and trickery, you have to be careful about what you install these days \u2013 especially freeware.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Many excellent, clean freeware programs exist. But a lot of good freeware programs are bundled with badware by download sites. CNet and Softonics are known for this, but many other download sites are playing this game now too.\u00a0 At this time, we only trust one download site unconditionally and that\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snapfiles.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Snapfiles<\/a>. And for an alternate download site, we like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorgeeks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Major Geeks<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">If all of a sudden you start getting ads popping up whenever you browse the web or check your email, the first thing you should do is reset your browser and clear your browser\u2019s history.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Here\u2019s how to reset the three most popular browsers.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>Chrome<\/strong> \u2013 Click the Menu icon (very top-right; it looks like 3 vertical dots). Click Settings. At the very bottom of the Settings dialog, click Show Advanced Settings, scroll to the bottom, and click \u201cReset settings\u201d.
