Make the File Explorer on Windows 11 Look and Work like Windows 10’s File Explorer<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

After almost a year of using Windows 11, I use my Windows 11 computer more than my Windows 10 computer. It\u2019s faster and it reboots much more quickly.\u00a0 To be completely honest my Windows 10 computer is a bit long-in-the-tooth compared to my under one-year-old Windows 11 PC. I guess time will tell.<\/span><\/p>\n

One thing I don\u2019t like about Windows 11 is the minimalistic File Explorer. To me, at least, the File Explorer was more functional because of its ribbon. Yes, I know, many people didn\u2019t like the File Explorer ribbon on Windows 10, but I did \u2013 once I learned to use it, that is.<\/span><\/p>\n

Below, you can see the Windows 11 version of File Explorer with its minimalistic interface.<\/span><\/p>\n

Below you can see I\u2019ve changed my Windows 11 File Explorer to look \u2014 and work \u2014 more like the familiar Windows 10 File Explorer.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you like, you can also change your Windows 11 File Explorer to look and work more like the Windows 10 File Explorer. All you need to do is download our registry zip file. In the zip file, there are two registry (.reg) files. One to make your Windows 11 File Explorer look and work more like Windows 10\u2019s File Explorer and one to bring back the Windows 11 File Explorer should you decide to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n

WAIT! BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER, CREATE A RESTORE POINT, JUST IN CASE\u2026<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Type RESTORE in the taskbar\/Start menu search. Click on Create a Restore Point when it appears in the search results. Give it a name you\u2019ll recognize \u2014 the date will automatically be appended.<\/span><\/p>\n

OK now let\u2019s proceed!<\/span><\/p>\n

Once you download the zip file and unzip it, you will see two registry files (.reg).<\/span><\/p>\n

To change your Windows 11 File Explorer to look and work more like Windows 10\u2019s File Explorer, double-click on \u201cwindows10-file-explorer-with-ribbon.reg\u201d (highlighted in yellow below). You\u2019ll have to override the UAC prompt and agree to allow this change to your registry. Then restart your computer<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

When you open File Explorer it will look like the Windows 10 File Explorer.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you ever decide you want to return to the Windows 11 default File Explorer, double-click on \u201crestore-windows11-files-explorer.reg\u201d \u2013 highlighted in green in the screenshot above \u2013 and override the UAC and warning prompt to allow the change to your registry and restart your computer and you are all set.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you have Reg Organizer?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If you have Reg Organizer, you don’t need any reg files. There are tweaks in Reg Organizer that switch the File Explorer mode as well as the Context Menu making them identical to Windows 10 — no messing around with reg files.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
