It automates things like disk optimization, disk defragmentation, updating Windows and Windows apps, running security scans, and performing other maintenance routines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Automatic maintenance is a feature of all Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers and it\u2019s scheduled to run, by default, at 2:00 AM every day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">If your computer is turned off it won\u2019t run until your computer is running and idle. If your computer is asleep, Automatic maintenance won\u2019t run until your computer is awake and idle. But you can change a setting to allow Automatic Maintenance to wake your computer if it\u2019s asleep and run Automatic maintenance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">From the Automatic maintenance dialog, you can also generate a reliability report and\/or change the time Windows Automatic maintenance runs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">To access the Automatic maintenance settings\u2026<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">1. In the taskbar search, type \u201cControl\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">2. Click on Control Panel when it appears at the top.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">3. In the Control Panel switch to the Large Icon view and click on Security and Maintenance.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">4. In Security and Maintenance, click on Maintenance (see screenshot below).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infove\/images\/2022\/maintain0.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows Tips &amp; Tricks\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">5. While in the Maintenance dialog you can generate a reliability report by clicking on \u201cView reliability history\u201d. If you want to change the time at which automatic maintenance runs, click on \u201cChange maintenance settings\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infove\/images\/2021\/maintain1.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows Tips &amp; Tricks\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">6. In Maintenance settings you can <em>change the time that Automatic maintenance runs<\/em>. You can also set Automatic maintenance to <em>wake your computer if your computer is asleep<\/em> at that time. See the screenshot below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infove\/images\/2019\/automain1.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve Windows Tips &amp; Tricks\" width=\"567\" height=\"258\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">If you normally put your computer to sleep when you\u2019re not using it, allowing Automatic Maintenance to wake your computer to do its maintenance routines is a good idea.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">And if you&#8217;re wondering&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">And for those who&#8217;d like to know why we have File History turned off even though we recommend File History to back up your computer.
