It\u2019s valuable. Every icon or item on your taskbar should be something you use and use often. Having icons on your taskbar should be a quick and easy way to launch your favorite apps and programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">In this tip, we&#8217;ll show you how to declutter your Windows 10 or Windows 11 taskbar so you have more space for the things you really need. We&#8217;ll start with Windows 10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Windows 10<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2020\/taskbar0.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows 10 Tips\" width=\"562\" height=\"46\" \/><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Above:\u00a0 A cluttered Windows 10 taskbar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Let\u2019s look at the taskbar above. Does your Windows 10 or Windows 11 taskbar look like these?\u00a0 On Windows 10 the huge search box takes up the space of several icons. And Cortana and Task View are two things I don\u2019t use \u2013 do you?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Let\u2019s start by trimming down that huge search box. You really don\u2019t need that big search box to search from the taskbar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2020\/taskbar.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows 10 Tips\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Right-click in the search box. Then hover over \u201cSearch\u201d and you\u2019ll see the option to \u201cShow search icon\u201d. If you search using the taskbar search often as I do, the search icon will work just as well as that big search box did and take up only a fraction of the space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">I never use Cortana. If you don\u2019t either, why have it hanging around the taskbar taking up valuable space? Get rid of the Cortana icon by right-clicking on it and deselecting the \u201cShow Cortana button\u201d from the menu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2020\/taskbar1.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows 10 Tips\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">When is the last time you used the Task View icon? Ever? Someone at Microsoft thought it was a grand idea. I never use it. Maybe I\u2019m missing something. If you do not use Task View either, why have its icon using up space on the taskbar?\u00a0 Get rid of it, I tells you!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Right-click on the Task View icon and deselect it from the menu that pops up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2020\/taskbar2.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows 10 Tips\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Now look:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">BEFORE<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2020\/taskbar0.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows 10 Tips\" width=\"588\" height=\"52\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">AFTER<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2020\/taskbar3.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows 10 Tips\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Instead of using up the precious taskbar space with things that I don\u2019t use and by replacing the large taskbar search box with an icon, I have a lot more room for the apps, programs, and shortcuts I use most often &#8211; and they are right at my fingertips.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Windows 11<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">OK, Windows 11 users it&#8217;s your turn. One good thing is that Windows 11 wisely has no option for a big search bar to take up space on your taskbar, but it does have several other space-wasters.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Let&#8217;s clean it up!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Right-click on an empty space on your taskbar and click on &#8220;Taskbar settings&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Turn off &#8220;Task view&#8221; &#8220;Widgets&#8221; and &#8220;Chat&#8221; but not the Search icon &#8211; that&#8217;s useful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2022\/win11-taskbar1.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows 11 Tips\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Your Windows 11 taskbar will go from looking like this:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2022\/win11-taskbar.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows 11 Tips\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">To this&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2022\/win11-taskbar4b.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows 11 Tips\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">And one more thing&#8230; <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">If you don&#8217;t want your taskbar in the center of your screen,\u00a0 you can easily put it back where it&#8217;s been since Windows 95 &#8211; on the left.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Just right-click on the taskbar, click &#8220;Taskbar settings&#8221;,\u00a0 click on &#8220;Taskbar behaviors&#8221; then, next to &#8220;Taskbar alignment&#8221;, click on &#8220;Center&#8221;. After you click on &#8220;Center&#8221;, the &#8220;Left&#8221; option will appear.
