Important question?\u00a0 Nope. Fun question? Yep!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">As we may have mentioned a hundred times or so in our many years of doing this stuff&#8230; we leave our computers running 24\/7 and the only time we restart is for Windows Updates, during severe lightning storms, when traveling, or if things start running poorly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">If you asked us how long it\u2019s been since we last restarted our computers, we couldn\u2019t tell you without looking at our up time. If you\u2019re like us, you probably don\u2019t know how long it\u2019s been since you rebooted either.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">So, how long has your computer been running since the last restart?\u00a0 We\u2019re going to show you two ways to find out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">The Command Prompt Way<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">The first way, not only shows you how long it\u2019s been since you last started or restarted your computer, but it also shows when your current version of Windows was installed. If you\u2019re using Windows 10, you\u2019ll see the date of the last major (version) update.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Open a Command Prompt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Type CMD in the taskbar search and click on Command Prompt when it appears at the top.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">In the Command Prompt, at the prompt, type<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>systeminfo<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">And press Enter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2023\/boottime.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">I&#8217;ve added today&#8217;s date to the screenshot above &#8211; February 26, 2023.\u00a0 As you can see above, mine was last restarted on February 20, 2023, at 10:32 PM.\u00a0 Also, note that above it you\u2019ll see \u201cOriginal Install Date\u201d. That&#8217;s not actually the original install date, that&#8217;s the date of the last major version update. Another one is coming soon &#8211; I think.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>The Task Manager Way<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>Windows 10<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Another way to see how long your computer has been running since the last reboot is to use good old Task Manager. And no matter what version of Windows you\u2019re using, you can open Task Manager by using the keyboard shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.\u00a0 In Windows 10, Open Task Manager and then click on the \u201cPerformance\u201d tab then click on \u201cCPU\u201d and look near the bottom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2022\/win11-perform.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve\" width=\"296\" height=\"492\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You\u2019ll see under \u201cUp time\u201d, it has been 13 hours, 41 minutes, and 22 seconds since I last restarted my computer<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2022\/boottime1.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve\" width=\"600\" height=\"651\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>Windows 11<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">In Windows 11, open the Task Manager by using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC or just right-click on the taskbar and choose Task Manager.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Click on the Performance icon (see below) or if your Task Manager is open full-screen, click on &#8220;Performance&#8221; and you&#8217;ll see this&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2023\/uptime11.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve\" width=\"600\" height=\"651\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">As you can see my good ol&#8217; cheap ($258) Alldocube has been running for five days, ten hours, thirty-eight minutes, and 27 seconds since it was last restarted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Is this stuff important to know?
