If you do then you\u2019ll remember the \u201cWayback Machine\u201d. That was one of my favorite parts of the Rocky &amp; Bullwinkle show \u2013 along with \u201cFractured Fairy Tales\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">If you\u2019ve been on and around the Web for as long as we have, then you too have seen tremendous changes to the way the Web looks and works. Back in the mid-90a when we first laid eyes on the Internet, it was a far different place than it is today. Back then if someone asked what you did last night and you said \u201cI surfed the web\u201d \u2013 you were labeled a geek, a kook, or worse. The Internet was an oddity. And back then\u00a0 I don\u2019t think even Darcy &amp; I, who both loved the Internet the minute we first laid eyes on it, ever thought it would develop into what it is today. The Internet grew from an oddity to a necessity in less than twenty-five years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">For those of you, like us, who sometimes find yourself longing for the good old days of the web, there\u2019s a website that can transport you back in time \u2013 back to the days when the web was a simpler place \u2013 a place where almost everything was free and the term \u201cweb designer\u201d was used to describe spiders \u2013 the kind with eight legs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Let\u2019s go back 19 years and look at Cloudeight Stationery. Back in those days, our site was ranked in the top 1000 most popular sites. Here is what Cloudeight Stationery looked like on June 2, 2004.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2019\/wayback.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve \" width=\"570\" height=\"241\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">If you go back farther than that you\u2019ll get the \u201cNetscape version\u201d of our site no matter what browser you use. Back in those days, only Internet Explorer rendered our site and stationery correctly \u2013 but that was OK then, over 95% of everyone using Windows and browsing the Internet used Internet Explorer \u2013 there was no Firefox or Chrome.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">How about Microsoft circa 1998?<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2019\/wayback1.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve \" width=\"570\" height=\"489\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Or Amazon in 1999?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2019\/wayback2.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve \" width=\"570\" height=\"282\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">How about Yahoo. Here&#8217;s Yahoo circa 1998.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2019\/wayback4.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve \" width=\"570\" height=\"278\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">And one of my favorite sites of all time \u2013 unfortunately long gone from the Web: DaveCentral.com \u2013 The first thing I\u2019d do every morning is get up, go to DaveCentral\u00a0 and download all the new freeware he recommended for that day. Darcy used to laugh at the stuff I\u2019d put on my computer. I ran into problems being so aggressive and installing new programs so prolifically, but I also discovered some really great programs too by trying Dave\u2019s recommendations.
