Best regards, Chet

Our answer
Hi Chet – and thanks. Try this…

Download the update directly – don’t use Windows Update this time from the following link – and be sure to select the correct download for your version of Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit). If you’re not sure, right click on “Computer”, select “Properties” and look under the heading “System”. Next to “Operating System Type” you’ll see either 64-bit Windows or 32-bit Windows.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=c3202ce6-4056-4059-8a1b-3a9b77cdfdda

For 32-Bit Windows 7 download: windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe
For 64-Bit Windows 7 download: windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

The file will be downloaded to C:\\users\\your-user-name\\downloads. Remember the file path and remember the name of the file, i.e. windows61.1-KB976932-X64.exe .

Next shutdown your computer and boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt. To boot into safe mode, keep pressing the F8 key while Windows is booting. You’ll get a black and white boot menu – from that menu select “Safe Mode with Command Prompt”

Next to the command prompt (which looks liked C:\\> ) type this:

CD C:\\users\\your-user-name\\downloads . Your command prompt should look like this:

C:\\users\\your-user-name\\downloads\\>

At the prompt, type in the file name you downloaded (either windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe or windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe ) and press Enter.

Windows 7 SP-1 should start running. Then let the windows reboot automatically and normally.

If you follow these instructions, you should find that Windows 7 SP1 has been successfully installed.

Let us know if this works for you.

Chet can’t download Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 For sometime now haven’t been able to download my update for service pack 1.
