Here&#8217;s a Time-Saving Tip For You<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">This tip is for Windows 10 and Windows 11\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">One of the biggest complaints we hear about Windows 10 \u2013 besides the botched updates \u2013 is how long it takes to start up. Well, it\u2019s true, you can disable some startups and do some optimization tricks that can reduce Windows 10\u2019s startup times, but still, most Windows 10 computers will take between 2 minutes and 5 minutes to start up. And keep in mind that boot times vary depending on the computer. Systems with more RAM (memory) and SSDs (Solid State Drives) boot faster than those with less RAM and HDDs (Standard Hard Drives).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>Two to five minutes is pretty much the norm<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">When we say 2 to 5 minutes to start up, we don\u2019t mean 2 to 5 minutes until you can see Windows on your screen \u2014 we mean 2 to 5 minutes from when you start Windows 10 until the time you can actually use it. In other words from the time you start Windows 10 until the time it is fully loaded.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>Windows Sleep Mode<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">And a bit about Windows 10 Sleep mode:\u00a0 \u00a0If you\u2019re one of the many people who have used Windows 10 sleep mode only to find that Windows 10 takes forever to wake up from sleep \u2014\u00a0 this tip is for you too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>A Time-saving tip for you<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Now we are going to share a tip that both of us have used for many years. Both of us love to get up in the morning and have our PCs ready to use. We don\u2019t want to waste 2, 3, 4, or more minutes before using our computers. We want to get right to work!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">So, despite the controversy that this tip will probably evoke, we will share our homemade time-saving tip with you. Please remember: Every computer is different, just like everyone who uses a computer is different. If you\u2019d like to have your computer instantly ready to use when you want to use it, this tip may be just what you\u2019re looking for.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Here is how we set up our Power Options on our Windows 10 (and Windows 11) computers.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Press and hold down the Windows key &amp; tap the x key (or right-click the Start button) and select \u201cPower Options\u201d from the menu that appears.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2020\/power1.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight Windows 10 Tips\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Above: Windows 10 Power Settings.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Below: Windows 11 Power Settings<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2024\/power11.png\" alt=\"Windows 11 Power Setting - Cloudeight InfoAve\" width=\"469\" height=\"426\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><em>Note: On my Windows 11 laptop,<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thundercloud.net\/infoave\/new\/how-to-use-the-windows-screensaver-feature-to-turn-your-computer-into-a-digital-clock\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> I made a clock screen saver<\/a><\/span>. My laptop doubles as a night light and clock at night. So that the screen saver shows all night until I use my computer in the morning, the screen is set to never dim when the laptop is plugged in. If you don&#8217;t use your computer for a clock at night like I do, set the &#8220;When plugged in, turn off my screen after&#8221; to &#8220;10 minutes&#8221;.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">If you don\u2019t have a laptop, and you want to try this tip, just use the settings we have selected for \u201cWhen plugged in\u2026\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Under \u201cScreen\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Set it to turn off after 10 minutes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">This means that after 10 minutes of inactivity (no keyboard, mouse, or touchpad activity) your screen will turn off.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Under \u201cSleep\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">\u201cPC goes to sleep after\u201d.. should be set to \u201cNever\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You may be wondering about how much extra electricity you\u2019ll use if you don\u2019t turn your computer off every night or put it to sleep. It depends on your PC. Newer desktops, all-in-ones, and desktops are a lot more energy-efficient than old ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Desktops and all-in-ones use more electricity than laptops. It\u2019s impossible to say how much more electricity your computer will use if you leave it turned on using the settings as suggested here.\u00a0 Our best guess is about 10-20 watts for a laptop (a nightlight or two) and 30- 60 watts for all-in-ones and desktops.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Using these settings guarantees instant access to your computer the minute you need it.\u00a0 To wake the screen just touch a key, move your mouse, or tap the touchpad if you\u2019re using a laptop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>Oh, and one more thing\u2026<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Leaving your computer turned on with these settings does not \u2014 at least not in our 26+ years of experience \u2014 shorten the life of your computer. All of our computers have lasted at least 8 to 10 years and some we have given away were over 12 years old. I<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>Let&#8217;s Talk a Little About Windows 11<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">If you\u2019re using Windows 11, you can also use these same settings if your Windows 11 PC is slow to start up. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">But generally, all things considered, Windows 11 computers start up faster than Windows 10 computers.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Does your Computer Take Too Long to Start Up?
