We use it all the time, and you should too. Why? Because it will save you a lot of time and trouble<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>Here are some examples of how the taskbar search can save you time.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">If you are using Windows 10 and looking for System Restore, you can fumble around in Settings and be redirected to System Information\/System Protection. But did you know if you type System Restore in the taskbar search, you\u2019ll find it almost as fast as you can type System Restore?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2019\/tbsearch.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve Windows Tips Taskbar search\" width=\"393\" height=\"853\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">And if you&#8217;re using Windows 11, you must make an additional click&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2022\/restore11.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve Windows Tips Taskbar search\" width=\"600\" height=\"425\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Simply typing \u201csystem restore\u201d (no quotes) in the taskbar search and pressing Enter will immediately bring up System Restore or create a manual restore point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">OK here are more examples of time-saving things you can do with the taskbar search.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">To open Notepad, type <strong>NOTEPAD<\/strong> and press enter. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">To open MS Word (if installed) type <strong>WORD <\/strong>and press enter. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">To open WordPad, type <strong>WordPad<\/strong> and press enter. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You can also run some commands from the taskbar search. Here are some of them:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Type the command (or word) and press Enter. Here are some to try (words to type are bolded):<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>Cmd<\/strong> (Opens a command prompt. If you need a command prompt with administrator privileges, type cmd in the taskbar search, right-click when \u201cCommand Prompt\u201d appears at the top, and choose \u201cRun as administrator\u201d.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>winver<\/strong> (tells you the Windows version you\u2019re using.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>services.msc<\/strong> (Opens Services where you can start, stop, and configure other settings for each service.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>control<\/strong> (opens the Control Panel)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>cleanmgr<\/strong> (runs Windows disk cleanup app)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>default<\/strong> (default app settings)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>msinfo32<\/strong> (opens System information where you can find out almost anything about your computer)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>wuapp<\/strong> (check for Windows updates)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>run<\/strong> (run command\/run box)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>about<\/strong> (Learn all about your PC)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>info<\/strong> (Opens System Information)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>calendar<\/strong> (opens the Windows calendar app)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>weather<\/strong> (opens Windows weather app)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>event<\/strong> (opens the Windows Event Viewer)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>User accounts<\/strong> (Opens user account settings)\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>Users<\/strong> (Opens user account settings in Control Panel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You can open some programs using the taskbar search such as Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Windows Mail App, and more. Type the program&#8217;s name into the taskbar search and press Enter when the program appears at the top to run the program. This does not work with all programs, so you\u2019ll have to experiment with it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You can do many things with the taskbar search, and the examples we\u2019ve shown you should be enough to see that the taskbar search is a quick way to perform different tasks, launch programs, run commands, and more. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">If you type a file path like C:\\Windows\\System32 and press enter, you\u2019ll go directly to that folder. No more digging around in File Explorer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You&#8217;re missing a lot if you\u2019re not using the taskbar search. Try some of the things shown in this article. And don\u2019t be afraid to experiment with the taskbar search on your own.
