EB says you can’t have too much money or too much information. So she’s constantly trying to find out how much I weigh and how much I’ve shrunk in the past year – and other personal stuff like that. She claims that information is the key to freedom – and to keeping tabs on me.<\/p>\n

I wish EB would seek her information somewhere else – like how about finding out more information on one of those computers she has in her home. She’s always complaining to me about some sort of driver she’s missing. I tell her I’m missing a driver too. I just drive myself to Walmart. I never had a driver and never will. EB has at least one driver – a Ping driver (oversized) and maybe others of which I’m not aware. She’s never home, so she must have a driver somewhere.<\/p>\n

You, too, have many drivers. But you don’t know where they are or what they are or what they do. You have a motherboard and all kinds of little gizmos, some whirring and some not, inside that little box you call a computer.<\/p>\n

Today we’re introducing a fantastic new version of a long-past freeware pick of the week – Belarc Advisor. The last time we reviewed this computer we were using Windows 93. Kidding. We were using Windows XP – after it had first been introduced back in ought two. But now we’re out of the oughts and into the tweens; we’re out of the first decade of the 21st century, a century, no doubt, than not many of us will see the end of -certainly not EB. By my calculations (which are always subject to review) she’ll be 179 years old. If she lives that long, she’ll have lived longer than anyone since Satchel Paige. I’m not counting on it. If she does live that long, she’ll be writing this newsletter by herself, because I’ll be long gone, looking for drivers in that great computer in the sky.<\/p>\n

Wow. Don’t you wish we were that brief? The Belarc Advisor<\/a> will give you more information about your computer in 3 minutes than you’ve learned about it in 3 years. It can come in very handy if you want to know what kind of sound card or video card you have. I can come in handy if you want see an eye-popping list of all the software you’ve installed and forgot about. It will tell you all you’ve ever wanted to know about your computer, and probably things you never wanted to know.<\/p>\n
