Last week we had over a dozen subscribers write about problems with various toolbars causing problems or error messages in Internet Explorer. Rather than answering each question individually, we’re going to provide one tip that will work for all toolbar problems in Internet Explorer. Most of the questions we received were related to legitimate toolbars, not to spyware\/adware toolbars. If you have a spyware toolbar like MyWebSearch, you should install a good antispyware program (or two) and keep it updated. Good, updated antispyware software will prevent and remove toolbars which are adware or spyware.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Any time you encounter a problem with a toolbar in Internet Explorer, you should disable it. You can easily disable any toolbar installed into IE by following these steps:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Open Internet Explorer. click “Tools” then “Internet Options”
\n2. In Internet Options, click the “Programs” tab.
\n3. Click the “Manage Add-ons”. Now find the toolbar which is causing you problems. Click on its name to select it, then select the disable option and click OK. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The toolbar which was causing you problems is disabled. To make sure it’s disabled, close Internet Explorer and reopen it. If you get no further error messages then your problem has been solved.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If the toolbar was one you wanted to keep and it stopped working or causing errors, we suggest you uninstall the toolbar completely and then reinstall it. Any legitimate (non-spyware\/no-adware) toolbar will have uninstall options available in your Control Panel Add\/Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Control Panel \/ Programs \/ Uninstall a program (Windows Vista and Windows 7). After you’ve uninstalled the toolbar, you can reinstall it and see if your problem with it has been resolved.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
