Stop Windows from Tracking Everything You Do<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"WindowsThere\u2019s been a lot of pushback against Windows Copilot PCs and a new feature called \u201cRecall\u201d (now rolling out to those with Copilot PCs), which is turned on by default. Recall automatically takes screenshots of your screen every few seconds, supposedly to make things easier to find using the AI assistant “Copilot”.<\/span><\/p>\n

From what we’re reading, it seems most people don\u2019t want Windows taking screenshots every few seconds of everything they do on their computers and are quite upset about it.<\/span><\/p>\n

But did you know that Windows 10 and 11 Already Track Everything You Do?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Did you know that whether you\u2019re using Windows 10 or Windows 11 and whether you use or have Copilot or not, Windows already tracks everything you do \u2013 but not with screenshots?\u00a0 It\u2019s called Timeline and Activity History in Windows 10 and Activity History in Windows 11.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t want Windows tracking everything you do on your computer, here\u2019s how to turn off Activity history and clear history already recorded.<\/span><\/p>\n

Windows 10<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Open Settings (Windows key + i ) and click on Privacy<\/span><\/p>\n

In the left-hand pane, click on Activity history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under the \u201cManage your activity history\u201d section, you\u2019ll see two options:<\/span><\/p>\n

Store my activity history on this device: Toggle the switch to Off if you don\u2019t want Windows to store your activity history on your device.<\/span><\/p>\n

Send my activity history to Microsoft: Toggle the switch to Off to prevent Windows from sending your activity history to Microsoft.<\/span><\/p>\n

Disabling both options will completely turn off activity history.<\/span><\/p>\n

To clean up what Windows has already recorded, scroll down a bit further, and under \u201cClear activity history,\u201d click the \u201cClear\u201d button.<\/span><\/p>\n

Windows 11<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Open Settings (Windows key + i)<\/span><\/p>\n

In Settings, click on \u201cPrivacy & security\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Under \u201cPrivacy & security,\u201d scroll down, find \u201cActivity history,\u201d and click on it.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the \u201cActivity history\u201d dialog, toggle the switch next to \u201cStore my activity history on this device\u201d to the Off position.<\/span><\/p>\n

And next to \u201cClear activity history for this account\u201d, click on \u201cClear history\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n
