And if that should happen unexpectedly, what happens to all the stuff you left behind on Gmail, Google Docs, Google Photos, YouTube, and other Google services? And even if it occurs when you expected it, what if you\u2019re not able to make such trenchant decisions? Eh?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">And what if you get tired of computers, smartphones, tablets, the Internet, Microsoft, and all things electronic and technical, and decide to hermitize in SW Arizona, spending your days watching the sunrise and the scorpions crawling up your leg, and swimming in your cereal bowl? What happens to all the information you left behind on your Google account(s)?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Google has an interesting feature called Inactive Account Manager. It lets you decide what to do with all the data in your Google Account(s) should something happen to you. You can give a friend, spouse, family member, partner, or whomever access to your account(s) should you no longer be around or capable or available to access them. Or, if you are smart, like TC, you\u2019ll just have Google delete your account upon your demise. Heaven knows I don\u2019t want any of my friends or partners looking at my accounts and discovering the foibles of my worldly existence after I leave this mortal coil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">What happens to your data is your choice. Setting up the Inactive Account Manager for each Google Account you own is a great idea. You remain in control of your data even while you\u2019re waiting to get in those pearly gates \u2014 or if you end up like EB, crossing the River Styx with you-know-who.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">We\u2019re going to give you a quick pictorial guide to setting you your Google Account (Gmail Account) in case something happens to you or you decide to give up the internet, computers, smartphones, tablets, buy an abacus, and live in the desert with the scorpions and fire ants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You can remain in control of your data, even when you\u2019ve left this crazy world, simply by using Google\u2019s Inactive Account Manager.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Let\u2019s get started.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/myaccount.google.com\/inactive\">Visit this page and log in to your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Google<\/span> Account\u2019s Inactive Account Manager<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Here are some screenshots to guide you along \u2013 but you\u2019ll find that Google prompts you each step of the way. You\u2019ll need to enter a cell phone number (it\u2019s required). If you don\u2019t have a cell phone, get a throwaway phone \ud83d\ude42 but don\u2019t throw it away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2018\/google-inactive2.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve Computer Tips &amp; Tricks\" width=\"567\" height=\"421\" \/><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You\u2019ll need to enter your Gmail account address and a recovery address (a different email address than your Gmail address).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2018\/google-inactive3.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve Computer Tips &amp; Tricks\" width=\"567\" height=\"469\" \/><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You can add people to whom you want to give access to your data \u2013 children, grandchildren, good friends, etc. You can name up to 10, but you don\u2019t want them fighting over your data, so keep the number to just a few \u2013 unless you have 10 kids. You\u2019ll notice (above) you can also set up an autoreply, something like:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Hey EB, I\u2019m out of your clutches and floating around with the angels (then insert a tongue-sticking-out emoji). No more orders and pay cuts from you!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2018\/google-inactive4.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve Computer Tips &amp; Tricks\" width=\"561\" height=\"628\" \/><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Above, you can see but a tiny bit of a long list of things you can allow your chosen people to access in the event you are no longer around.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/images\/2018\/google-inactive5.png\" alt=\"Cloudeight InfoAve Computer Tips &amp; Tricks\" width=\"567\" height=\"324\" \/><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">You\u2019ll have to confirm each person\u2019s phone number and email address. You can add a personal message. If you named some trusted people and allowed them to access some or all of your data, they\u2019ll have 3 months after your account is declared inactive to do so.
