One of TC’s \t\t\t\t\t\tfavorite freeware programs just got better. This former \t\t\t\t\t\tFreeware Pick, deserves another look, if you’re looking \t\t\t\t\t\tfor a great free word processor with lots of extras.<\/p>\n
Oh yes. There are a plethora of free office applications \t\t\t\t\t\tout there. We know all about them. Open Office, SS, \t\t\t\t\t\tGoogle Docs, and many others. Microsoft Office is facing \t\t\t\t\t\tstiff competition. You’d think they’d lower the price. \t\t\t\t\t\tBut no, not Microsoft – they’re going to raise the \t\t\t\t\t\tprice. Why not? They think that people like Office so \t\t\t\t\t\twell that they’ll give up their first born for it. They \t\t\t\t\t\twon’t, but Microsoft lives in the 1990’s – before Google \t\t\t\t\t\tand before money got tight. “What me worry?” says Bill \t\t\t\t\t\tGates. Microsoft keeps changing Office so that you can’t \t\t\t\t\t\tread new Office documents with your old Office program \t\t\t\t\t\tunless you download a converter. It’s sort of like \t\t\t\t\t\ttraveling to Europe – you need a converter so you don’t \t\t\t\t\t\tblow up your hair dryer.<\/p>\n
I have Office \t\t\t\t\t\t2003. I don’t plan on buying Office 2010. The only thing \t\t\t\t\t\tI use in Office is Word. I have used Excel about twice. \t\t\t\t\t\tI have nothing to spread on a spreadsheet anymore so I \t\t\t\t\t\tdon’t use it. PowerPoint’s nice if you’re trying to \t\t\t\t\t\timpress some girl or guy. Since I’m a guy I don’t want \t\t\t\t\t\tto impress guys – and I’m too old to worry about \t\t\t\t\t\timpressing girls – well sometimes.<\/p>\n

But I really \t\t\t\t\t\tdon’t like Word too much – it keeps correcting my \t\t\t\t\t\tgrammar. Can you imagine the nerve? So when I stumbled \t\t\t\t\t\ton Jarte a couple of years ago, I was impressed. It \t\t\t\t\t\tleaved my grammar alone and I was free to express myself \t\t\t\t\t\tgood. I mean all those stupid grammar rules? Who need \t\t\t\t\t\tthose? I was impressed enough that I chose it for our \t\t\t\t\t\tFreeware Pick then. And I still use Jarte for a lot of \t\t\t\t\t\tthings, and the new version is even better – it’s fully \t\t\t\t\t\tcompatible with Windows 7 32bit and 64bit as well as all \t\t\t\t\t\tprevious versions of Windows.<\/p>\n
OK, I’m \t\t\t\t\t\tgetting carried away here, you just care about what it \t\t\t\t\t\tis, what it does and where to get it. What you really \t\t\t\t\t\tcare about –because you’re cheap — is that it’s free. \t\t\t\t\t\tBut free is not good enough for you, is it? You want \t\t\t\t\t\tcheap and you want good. Cheap and good are hard to \t\t\t\t\t\tfind. Trust me.<\/p>\n
Jarte is a \t\t\t\t\t\tWindows word processor that can read and save your word \t\t\t\t\t\tprocessing gems in Word format which is .doc or .docx \t\t\t\t\t\tdepending on the version of MS Office you spent $400 to \t\t\t\t\t\tbuy. I would have said $400 for, but that would have \t\t\t\t\t\tbeen ending a sentence with a preposition and Word \t\t\t\t\t\tdoesn’t like that – plus $400 for sounds kind of clumsy.<\/p>\n
So what does \t\t\t\t\t\tJarte do? Duh! It’s a word processor. If you don’t know \t\t\t\t\t\twhat a word processor is, you don’t need one. Trust me \t\t\t\t\t\ton that. Here’s a short list of features. If you like \t\t\t\t\t\tthese features, great, if not, go plunk down $400 for MS \t\t\t\t\t\tOffice, I don’t care!<\/p>\n

You \t\t\t\t\t\tcan see them all here.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n If you’re the kind of person who spent $400 for MS \t\t\t\t\t\tOffice and realize now you could have bought a whole \t\t\t\t\t\tcomputer for that much money, and you feel bilked;\u00a0 feel \t\t\t\t\t\tbilked no more. In about 4 months MS Office 2010 will \t\t\t\t\t\tmake all your old documents obsolete and you’ll have a \t\t\t\t\t\tchance to tell Microsoft where to place Office 2010. Not \t\t\t\t\t\treally. I don’t know if MS Office 2010 will render your \t\t\t\t\t\told documents obsolete. They’ll probably have converters \t\t\t\t\t\tto convert MS Office 2003 docs into MS Office 2010 docs \t\t\t\t\t\t– and another converter to convert them into MS Office \t\t\t\t\t\t2007 or whatever it’s called.
