Avast has gone Norton. AVG has gone Norton. AntiVir is a good free antivirus but its nag-screen is annoying. There is no proof anywhere that paying for an antivirus provides you with better protection &#8212; but we have ample proof that paying for an antivirus doesn&#8217;t provide you with better protection. We&#8217;ve examined computers protected with Norton and computers protected with Avast or Kaspersky that we infected with all manner of rogues, spyware and badware. We&#8217;ve yet to see a computer using MSE infected with anything &#8212; but nonetheless &#8212; no antivirus is perfect.<\/p>\n<p>But why pay for something unless you really have to? If you want to spend money &#8212; visit our donation station and donate the $50 to us &#8212; you&#8217;ll get better information and more security for your dollar that with a paid security suite. Save your money.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re going to be changing antivirus programs there&#8217;s something you need to know. You must uninstall your current anti-virus first. But it&#8217;s not as easy as it sounds. You can&#8217;t get rid of many antivirus program by using Control Panel\/Remove Programs. Doing that is sure to leave something behind. And what that something is is a service that continually runs in the background and does absolutely nothing but use up resources.<\/p>\n<p>If your going to be changing anti-virus programs soon, here&#8217;s a list of special removal tools for some of the major antivirus programs and suites. It&#8217;s not easy. Make sure you read the instructions carefully. If you have something else google &#8220;removal tool+name of your antivirus&#8221; and see if there&#8217;s a removal tool for your antivirus product.<\/p>\n<p>I know it seems strange that antivirus products can&#8217;t be remove using Control Panel\/Remove Programs but most can&#8217;t be completely removed that way.
