Using the clean boot method can help you troubleshoot the problem and determine if the error is faulty Windows file or a program you have starting up with Windows.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how to perform a clean boot. Instructions are provided for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8212; Instructions for Windows Vista and Windows 7 &amp; 8 &#8212;<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nTo perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows 7, follow these steps.<\/p>\n<p>Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.<br \/>\nIf you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.<\/p>\n<p>On the General tab, click Selective Startup.<br \/>\nUnder Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.<br \/>\nClick the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.<\/p>\n<p>Click OK. When you are prompted, click Restart.<\/p>\n<p>After the computer starts, try starting up each program that normally starts with Windows &#8211; one at a time and see if you get the error message again. If you do, it&#8217;s a program error and not a Windows error.
