The goal is to give users the ability to see how places have changed over time. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve gathered historical imagery from past Street View collections dating back to 2007 to create this digital time capsule of the world,&#8221; wrote Vinay Shet, Google&#8217;s Street View product manager, in a <a href=\"http:\/\/googleblog.blogspot.com\/2014\/04\/go-back-in-time-with-street-view.html\">blog post<\/a>. &#8220;Now with Street View, you can see a landmark&#8217;s growth from the ground up, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/@40.712584,-74.014265,3a,75y,70.55h,110.28t\/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sI1fDNLjkb6vIeBVpIYH6ZA!2e0\">Freedom Tower<\/a>in New York City or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/@-3.808232,-38.523854,3a,75y,62.33h,89.17t\/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s9xxSzYVmvnzpd2vqHSylyA!2e0\">2014 World Cup Stadium<\/a> in Fortaleza, Brazil.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"NYC Freedom Tower\" border=\"0\" alt=\"NYC Freedom Tower\" src=\"http:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/common\/images\/site\/features\/2014\/04\/freedom%20tower.png\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>With Google&#8217;s new time machine-like feature in Maps, users can follow the construction of the Freedom Tower in New York City. (Photo: Google) <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/s\/article\/9136345\/Google_Update\">Google<\/a> also says the new feature can serve as a digital timeline of recent history, enabling users to follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/@38.444421,141.446578,3a,75y,321.19h,70.57t\/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sLS2ysGGsA7qFZwTgByApgA!2e0\">reconstruction<\/a> underway in Japan after the devastating tsunami and earthquake in 2011. <\/p>\n<p>Users also can use the new feature to see what cities would look like in different seasons.
