I have a Windows 7 laptop I  \t\t\t\tuse most of the time. I also have a 4-year-old desktop. I don&#8217;t  \t\t\t\tuse it that much but the other day I wanted to use it and it  \t\t\t\twouldn&#8217;t boot. So I&#8217;m hoping you answer my question on Friday  \t\t\t\tbecause I&#8217;d really like to have it working this weekend &#8211; my  \t\t\t\tbrother and his family is coming in from out of town and I&#8217;d  \t\t\t\tlike to have the extra computer for them. Can you help me get  \t\t\t\tthis thing to boot up? Anything I can do? I have my fingers  \t\t\t\tcrossed you answer this for me. Keep up the great work. Darlene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Our answer<br \/>\n<\/strong>Thanks very much Darlene. We&#8217;re going to help you as much as  \t\t\t\twe can. These are the things we do when we encounter a computer  \t\t\t\tthat won&#8217;t boot&#8230;and we&#8217;ve seen quite a few of them &#8211; mostly  \t\t\t\tour own. These tips will work on Windows XP, Vista and Windows  \t\t\t\t7, so any other folks out there reading this, you can use these  \t\t\t\ttips too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">If your computer won&#8217;t boot or hangs  \t\t\t\tindefinitely while booting do this:<\/p>\n<p>1. Shut the computer off at the power switch<br \/>\n2. Wait at least two minutes<br \/>\n3. Turn your computer back on &#8211; Tap the F8 key continuously as  \t\t\t\tsoon as the computer starts to boot<br \/>\n4. Select &#8220;Safe Mode&#8221; from the menu<br \/>\n5. When the computer boots into Safe Mode you&#8217;ll see a dialog  \t\t\t\tbox telling you you&#8217;re in Safe Mode (DUH!)<br \/>\n6. Open your start menu and go to All  \t\t\t\tPrograms\\Accessories\\System Tools and click System Restore. If  \t\t\t\tyou can&#8217;t even get this far see \t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/answers\/2011\/rstrui.htm\"> http:\/\/thundercloud.net\/infoave\/answers\/2011\/rstrui.htm<\/a> for  \t\t\t\tmore help.<br \/>\n7. Choose a date at least 2 days in the past and restore you  \t\t\t\tcomputer to that point.<br \/>\n8. Your computer will reboot automatically<br \/>\n9. If all went well, you should be back into Windows. Click OK  \t\t\t\tat the System Restore prompt if all seems OK<\/p>\n<p>If these instructions don&#8217;t work, you have another option &#8211; find  \t\t\t\tyour Windows CD or DVD. Insert the DVD or CD in your DVD\/CD  \t\t\t\tdrive and power off your computer. Wait a minute or two. Turn  \t\t\t\tyou computer back on. You&#8217;ll see a dialog on the screen that  \t\t\t\twill say &#8220;Press any key to boot from CD (DVD)&#8221;. Press any key.  \t\t\t\tYour computer should boot up.
