But we do have things we want to hide, she said, whether it&#8217;s credit card information or info about our families<\/p>\n<p>SAN FRANCISCO \u2013 Americans overwhelmingly think they&#8217;ve lost control of how their personal information is collected and used by companies. And a majority say they are concerned about the government&#8217;s monitoring of phone calls and Internet communication, a survey released Wednesday finds.<\/p>\n<p>The research was done by the non-partisan Pew Research Center&#8217;s Internet Project. It focused on American&#8217;s perceptions of privacy and online behavior after Edward Snowden revealed the extent of U.S. government surveillance programs last year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"page-block  right\">\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"nw6\"><a href=\"https:\/\/us.newshub.org\/survey-says-americans-fear-privacy-eroding-6284998.html\">Survey Says Americans Fear Privacy Eroding<\/a><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"page-block-inf page-block-last clear\" title=\"Survey: U.S. Adults Feel They Are Losing Control of Their Data\">\n<blockquote><p><a class=\"left p-mg\" href=\"https:\/\/us.newshub.org\/survey-u-s-adults-feel-they-losing-control-their-data-6267712.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/static.newshub.org\/img\/article\/6267712\/100\/\" alt=\"Survey: U.S. Adults Feel They Are Losing Control of Their Data\" width=\"169\" height=\"155\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/us.newshub.org\/survey-u-s-adults-feel-they-losing-control-their-data-6267712.html\">Survey: U.S. Adults Feel They Are Losing Control of Their Data<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p>The survey &#8220;puts some hard numbers behind the suspicion that many of us have had, that surveillance by NSA has really impacted the American mind-set on privacy,&#8221; said Marc Rotenberg with the Electronic Privacy Information Center in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>The Pew survey found that Americans simply don&#8217;t trust companies when it comes to their personal information \u2014 91% either agreed or strongly agreed that consumers have lost control.<\/p>\n<p>They trust the government only slightly less \u2014 80% agree or strongly agree that Americans should be concerned about the government&#8217;s monitoring of their communication.<\/p>\n<p>There was a universal lack of confidence in the privacy of everyday methods of communication.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about landlines, cell phones, e-mail, text messages, chat and social media, not one was considered &#8220;very secure&#8221; by a majority of respondents&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/B8CkKR\" target=\"_blank\">SOURCE: NEWSHUB<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MOST NOW FEAR THEIR LIVES ARE OPEN BOOK For a long time, people thought: &#8216;Well, I have nothing to hide,&#8217; one expert said.
