Learn about simple ways to prevent neighbors from using your wireless Internet without permission. The data LED of your wireless router is constantly blinking and none of the family members are using the Internet at home. This might indicate that someone outside \u2013 probably your neighbors \u2013 are surfing the web using your Wireless (Wi-Fi) network.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are neighbors using your Wi-Fi network?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you would like to confirm whether an outsider is using your wireless home network, here\u2019s a trick. First enter the router\u2019s IP address in the browser\u2019s address bar \u2013 here\u2019s how to find the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labnol.org\/software\/find-ip-address-of-router\/18936\/\">router\u2019s IP Address<\/a>. Then open the DHCP Client Table (it is under Status \u2013 &gt; Local Network \u2013 &gt; DHCP Server for Linksys routers). This shows a list of all devices connected to your wireless network including those of strangers.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Prevent Wi-Fi Theft<\/h2>\n<p>You can\u2019t block the Wi-Fi signals from reaching your neighbor\u2019s house but there are several things you may do to prevent them from piggybacking on your wireless network. Some of the well-known techniques to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labnol.org\/internet\/secure-your-wireless-wifi-network\/10549\/\">secure your Wireless network<\/a>include:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Setup a password for your Wi-Fi network<\/strong> \u2013 Open your router\u2019s admin dashboard and set the wireless security mode to either WPA, WPA2 or WEP (use WPA2-mixed if possible). Now people would have to know the password before they can join your Wi-Fi network.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Use MAC Address Filtering<\/strong> \u2013 Your laptop computer, mobile phone, tablet and all other gadgets have a unique <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labnol.org\/internet\/prevent-wifi-theft\/19919\/#macaddress\">MAC address<\/a>.
