You should have as much right to open an online business, if you want, and not be held ransom by the big Internet Service Providers who, if Net Neutrality is not upheld, will put your site in the slow lane making it very hard for people to access. Sites like ours, who cannot afford to pay the ransom will be placed on the slowest lanes of the Internet while the billion-dollar companies, who can afford to pay, will enjoy the fastest lanes. This will funnel more traffic to sites whose owners can afford to cough up millions of dollars for “Preferred” access. This is not about competition or the survival of the fittest, this is about fairness and equality.

Yes, we know many of you think that the government sticking their hands in this will be bad news for us all – but think again. Yes our government has bungled a lot of things, maybe most things, especially in last couple of decades but it doesn’t bungle everything – think of child labor laws for example. Should we let free enterprise exploit children in the name of profit…didn’t thinks so. Our pharmaceuticals are among the safest in the world. There is no other entity powerful enough to reign in the telecommunication companies who want to divide the Internet up into fast and slow lanes based on the ability to pay. This is not competition or free enterprise, this will end up with the largest telecoms gobbling up the smaller ones until we all have less than a handful of providers to choose from – we’re almost there already.

What is worse than taking a chance on the government attempting to preserve Net Neutrality is doing nothing at all.

Before you decide you’re against Net Neutrality because you think everything works better when left to the whims of the rich and powerful, read this, then decide. In just eight days, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will vote on the latest net neutrality proposal. This is a big deal, and we want the FCC to pass the proposed protections for net neutrality as they are written.

But to be clear: Net neutrality is not a done deal.

Corporate giants are lobbying hard against the FCC’s proposal, looking to sway votes to weaken it. If they succeed, it means Internet fast lanes for them, leaving slow lanes for the rest of us. Together we can prevent Big Cable from restricting Internet access, stifling innovation, hindering creativity and reducing user choice. Sign our petition to keep the Internet equal for all.
