More Than Half of Computer Users Haven’t Even Heard About Windows 8 – Study

By | October 29, 2012

Microsoft rolled out not only the brand new Windows 8 operating system, but also the so-called marketing blitz, an advertising campaign supposed to make people aware that a new Windows is available.

More than half of computer users however haven’t even heard about Windows 8, a study conducted by the Associated Press

and market researcher GfK has found.

52 percent out of the 1,200 US respondents said they didn’t know that Windows 8 was released, while 61 percent of them admitted having heard about it, but they have “little or no interest” in it.

While such news may come as a shock for Microsoft officials, it’s hard to believe that these figures are indeed accurate, as the United States have already been the target of numerous Windows 8 advertising campaigns.

I’m not surprised at all. I’m tired of Microsoft’s “new and improved” releases so I’ve become tuned-out everytime I hear the word “Microsoft” or “Windows” on TV or in promotional places. I probably wouldn’t know about Windows 8 if I didn’t hear about it here. What you have to say is more honest and to the point, free of the hype and I appreciate it. As for the ads.. if the big Win8 release ad push is intermingled with the obnoxious misleading political campaign and equally obnoxious misleading pharmaceutical ads, my mute button gets a good workout. TV and print ads is the last place on earth I would look for worthwhile and/or reliable information. Maybe Microsoft should have waited ’til AFTER the election if they want ALL the attention. Stupid move, I think.
