Emsisoft continues to make us proud

There are at least a half-dozen anti-virus testing labs around. Some of you become dismayed when you don’t see Emsisoft listed. Well, there’s an easy explanation for this: Emsisoft does not participate in every single independent lab’s testing. So if you happened to be looking at an independent lab’s test results and don’t see Emsisoft listed, don’t assumes it’s not any good anymore. Many companies do not submit their product for testing to every anti-virus testing lab.

We think most people would agree that AV Comparatives is the premier testing lab – and just about every anti-virus developer would be proud to have its highest rating. And Emsisoft does and has had. And also keep in mind that Emsisoft is an anti-virus that is also a great anti-malware too. Just guessing, we figure about one in ten of you will encounter a virus and 9 out of 10 of you will encounter malware — within the next week. We base this on our experience working with hundreds of people and hundreds of computers – 90% of which are infected with at least some malware.

While you indeed need good anti-virus protection, you need good anti-malware protection too. We have worked on computer’s running AVG, AVAST, Norton and McAfee which were full – and we mean FULL of malware. When malware infections become numerous they start affecting a computer’s performance. I personally worked on a computer a few days ago that was infected with a substantial amount of malware — some of which had even changed the Internet settings and routed all traffic through a proxy server — the malware sompany’s server. So everything that lady did on the Internet was going through the malware company’s server compromising her privacy and her safety. I had to completely redo her Internet settings after removing the malware from her computer.

So it’s nice when a company detects 99.9% of all viruses, but it’s even nicer when a company detects 99.9% of all viruses and 99.9% of all malware too — no program will ever score consistently at 100%.

We wanted to answer some of the comments about Emsisoft “slipping”. They are not slipping — they are improving. Whenever we run across something we know is malware which no one, including Emsisoft detects, we send our findings to Emsisoft and they investigate the malware program we submitted to them, and if they agree it’s malware (they always have) then they add it to their malware definitions.

No antivirus or anti-malware is perfect. But only a few reach the top tier — the top five antivirus programs. Of these top five – only Emsisoft is also a true anti-malware. So we continue to be proud of our choice of Emsisoft as our #1 rated antivirus and anti-malware. It’s not free but it’s a lot less expensive than many others.

So with that in mind we invite you to read more about Emsisoft’s current status – and how they continue to be ranked in the top tier of all antivirus products — and again Emsisoft remains the only antivirus program which is also a world-class anti-malware program.

AV-Comparatives 2013 Real World Protection Test

av-c advanced+ dec 2013

Emsisoft Anti-Malware stands up to yet another round of testing, this time receiving an Advanced+ rating in AV-Comparatives’ 2013 August-November Real World Protection Test – the most important test of the second half of 2013.

Advanced+ is the highest ranking a program can receive, and The AVC Real World Test is one of the most comprehensive and trying evaluations in the industry.  The test is constructed to emulate real-world antimalware situations, meaning that top performers are those that provide end users with the absolute best in computer security and antivirus protection.

Primary Conditions

AV-Comparatives (AVC) is an independent, Austrian based antivirus testing organization. AVC is dedicated to testing whether antivirus security software “lives up to its promises,” and it does so by running its Real World Protection Test twice a year.

The Real World Protection Test is designed to re-create the typical experience of your everyday PC user. To begin, AVC installs each program to be tested on a computer with the following specifications:

Type: Dell Optiplex 755
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 4 GB
Hard Disk: 80 GB SSD
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit, updated to August 2nd, 2013

Computers are then loaded with the antivirus software, configured to default settings. What follows is a 4 month testing period, where each computer and its given software goes through a typical user experience every single day.

So true. I had a major hard drive crash and the technician who installed the new drive installed Avast as a courtesy. I was having to re-install all my personal programs and just depended on Avast until I had time to re-install Emsisoft. Noticed some problems with my computer. Ran Super Anti-Spyware and MalwareBytes. Wow. What a mess. The laptop my husband uses had Emsisoft and no malware was on it with the same scans run. Big difference. I MADE the time to re-install Emsisoft on my computer.

Emsisoft does such a great job of keeping the bad stuff away that I was surprised yesterday when it found something. But luckily, it was something that was low risk. Still, it caught it and has done a great job of keeping my computer safe from the bad guys. 🙂 I’m so glad you found a great program to recommend to everyone.

Can’t tell you how impressed I am with Emsisoft! Had a bit of a problem so left a message on their site. I heard back from them in about 5 minutes!! They were very helpful. Then a day or two later they contacted me again just to see how things were going and to offer more help if I needed it. Couldn’t ask for better service and I truly would recommend them to everyone.

Just today Emsisoft. while running a scan, had found a low risk toolbar and the installer and that consisted of 3 files. I had let my daughter use my computer twice this last week and she isn’t too smart when it comes to computers. I have seen the results of multiple toolbars on a friend’s computer, along with Conduit and the Ask toolbar. What a mess it was. They ended up having to reinstall their Windows. I am so glad I have Emsisoft!

I installed Emisoft when first offered and have been very happy with it. It updates regularly and has blocked many questionable risks, toolbars, malware, etc. I highly recommend it.

Had a question on how you configure Emsisoft for the best protection and peformance? Thank you for all the great tips!

It pretty much is configured they way it needs to be — you have to enable PUPs detection (We hope they’ll make this default soon) and you have to enable Schedule Scans. Those are the two most important configuration changes you need to make.
